Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg night shift position in an acute care hospital, requiring strong telemetry and strip reading skills.
Responsibilities
Work in a 32-bed Med / Surg unit with orthopedic, surgical, and oncology patientsAcute care hospital setting with Level 1 trauma designationMost patients are surgical (80%), with the remainder oncology; frequent knee and hip cases under a JHACO-certified programNurse-to-patient ratio is 1 : 4 for both days and nightsTelemonitoring performed with GE monitors at a central monitoring station12-hour night shifts with a requirement of four weekend shifts per four-week period; one major and one minor holiday coverage requiredFloating is required to Med / Surg Tele units B2C and B2D, as well as potentially to a sister facilityUses Cerner EMRResponsibilities include monitoring patients with post-surgical, orthopedic, oncology, and other specialized needsSupport from a charge nurse (non-assigned), unit supervisor, and PCTs or Task RNs depending on shiftRT and pharmacy services are available 24 / 7; SWAT nurse available for difficult IV startsNavy scrubs are requiredTravelers must complete floor-specific orientation (two shifts)Candidates may not have been directly employed by any facility associated with CommonSpirit Health or Dignity within the past yearMust pass testing on sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on the first day; failure in testing may result in ineligibility for 6 monthsSpectralink phones are used, with call lights attachedFirst to float among staff is requiredRequirements
Active AZ or compact RN license required at time of consideration; no pending licenses acceptedMinimum 2 years of recent Med / Surg experience, with at least 6 months recent practiceCurrent BLS and ACLS certifications requiredAbility to read telemetry strips and titrate amiodarone and cardizem down as neededMust pass a dysrhythmia exam within two attempts and a pass / fail Sim Lab on the first dayExperience with telemetry equipment and technology requiredMust be able to provide a current driver’s license; applicants cannot reside within 50 miles of the facilityMust provide two professional references according to specification : one recent supervisor (within 12 months) and one peer or supervisor (within 3 years)Benefits
