    SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT

    Under general direction of the building administrator and under specific direction of the classroom teacher. The primary purpose of this job is to assist the teacher with implementation of an educational program for special education students by providing instruction as assigned behavior management preparation of classroom materials and physical care for students. Provide instruction as assigned behavior management preparation of student(s) materials and primary care of students such as lifting toileting washing and appropriatemedical intervention and feeding under the direction of a knowledgeable staff.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    ShortTerm Assignments - Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or its recognized equivalent (GED)
  • Ability and desire to work on a constant basis minimum 1 time a month
  • Desire and ability to work and communicate effectively with staff students and parents from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable as assignments may change on short notice and may require coverage in various classrooms or grade levels throughout the day.
  • Long Term Paraeducator Assignments

  • High school diploma or its recognized equivalent (GED) and ;
  • Associates degree (or higher) from an accredited institution of higher education; or
  • 72 quarter credits from an accredited institution of higher education : or
  • Passing score on a Washington state recognized assessment (455).
  • Desire and ability to work and communicate effectively with staff students and parents from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Documentation must be provided upon hire.

    SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS

    Special Education Resource Program

  • Students may be in a general education classroom or pulled out to a different classroom
  • Students have specially designed instruction that aligns with general education curriculum at students instructional
  • Special Education Preschool

  • For students 3 5 years of age in a preschool setting
  • Focus on early learning and development benchmarks
  • Special Education Functional Academics (FA)

  • Students in grades K-5 who require small group settings
  • Cognitive and adaptive delays
  • Specially designed instruction cannot be met in the general education classroom
  • Special Education Functional Transition (FT)

  • Students in grades 6 12 who require small group settings
  • Cognitive and adaptive delays
  • Specially designed instruction cannot be met in the general education classroom
  • Additional focus on preparing students to transition to further education employment independent living
  • Special Education Life Skills

  • Students in grades k 12 who require small group settings
  • Signification delays across developmental areas
  • Focus on skills for independent functioning through Life Skills Curriculum

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Depending upon the needs of the students and the direction given by the special education teacher any or all of the following essential functions may be applicable to the job assignment.

    Assists students with hygiene including suctioning and personal needs such as lifting toileting washing and feeding. Prepares and gives intervention and medication under the direction of a knowledgeable professional.

  • Assists with implementation of behavior management techniques educational and vocational instruction and vocational placement programs.
  • Assist student(s) with transport and / or accompany student(s) in transition activities.
  • Instructs students in large or small groups or one-to-one as assigned by and under the direction of the special education teacher.
  • Prepares materials for use by student teacher and parents; types hand draws reproduces and collates.
  • Assists special education paras with students with hygiene and personal needs such as toileting lifting washing and feeding.
  • Administers or assists special education teacher with administration of assessment instruments.
  • Assists with maintaining class during special education teachers absence.
  • Supervises students during lunch recess on and off the bus assembly and to other building locations.
  • Assist student(s) with transport and / or accompany student(s) in transition activities.
  • Assists with management of high-risk students that are severely emotionally disturbed and / or dangerous.
  • May work with high-risk students who display significant behavior concerns as part of their disability who display significant behavior concerns as part of their disability.
  • Remain confidential regarding student / school matters
  • Work as a professional in a collaborative team

  • Create a positive rapport with students and fellow staff member.
  • Performs other duties asassigned as requested by the by the building administrator supervisor or teacher.

    Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to accurately and proficiently keyboard and utilize standard office software programs as needed
  • Ability to perform basic clerical tasks such as filing and use of office equipment such as personal computer telephone fax and photocopy machine and audio-visual equipment.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently within established guidelines.
  • Ability to supervise elementary middle and high school students in large and small groups
  • Ability to listen and respond appropriately to student needs.
  • Ability to work with students from a variety of multicultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Ability to make sound judgments in emergency or crisis situations.
  • Ability to learn skills of verbal de-escalation restraint techniques and behavior management
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure meet strict deadlines and maintain established timelines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a courteous and professional manner with all levels of staff and community members.
  • Ability to learn and apply District policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Must be organized and dependable.
  • Ability to proficiently speak write and understand English.
  • Certification and Licenses

  • Background check and fingerprinting.
  • First aid and CPR certification for employees assigned to the health room and transportation.

  • Paraeducator Program Certificate.

  • WORKING CONDITIONS

    Work is performed in regular school buildings located throughout the district. Ability to sit or stand for prolonged period of time; use of fingers hands and arms; operate a motor vehicle and tolerance of loud noises and physically demanding situations are all required. The employee must lift and / or move 25 to 50 pounds and may assist students with greater weight when required to intervene in student safety issues or when transporting. While performing the duties of this job the employee may occasionally work in outside weather conditions and be exposed to wet and / or humid conditions temperature fluctuations fumes or airborne particles toxic or caustic chemicals commonly used in instruction and / or cleaning. It may be expected that the individual could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials during the course of their duties. The employee may be exposed to infectious disease as carried by students.

  • CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Employment with Clover Park School District is conditional pending completion of a Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint background check as required by RCW28A.400.303. (NOTE : All associated background check fees are the employees responsibility.) The fingerprint scan must be completed prior to the first day of employment.

    Employees who are anticipated to work 630 hours during the school year (September 1 through August 31) are eligible for medical dental vision long term disability and basic life insurance benefits.

    Retirement and Deferred Compensation
