Position Summary
With a mission of promoting health equity and developing the capacities for academic personal and professional success for all members of the SF State community Student Health Services (SHS) works to shift positively the culture and social norms around health and wellness to increase students self-efficacy to make informed health decisions. Under the direction of the SHS director and lead physician and in an ethnically and culturally diverse educational environment the Registered Dietitian (RD) is responsible for obtaining and evaluating patient nutritional risks and deficiencies. The incumbent will provide medical nutrition therapy and nutrition education not limited to healthy eating habits to patients. Additionally the incumbent will work closely with SHS and other associated health professionals to coordinate care plans and support.
Position Information
Clinical Nutrition Assessment & Care Planning
Assess the clinical nutrition needs of patients.
Develop and document nutritional care plans within the electronic medical record (EMR).
Develop implement and evaluate individualized nutrition care plans based on clinical findings lab results weight trends intake and comorbidities.
Nutrition Counseling & Education
Provide nutrition education and counseling to patients.
Provide community resources to support patient needs.
Provide staff education (ad hoc) on updated protocols best practice and trends.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration & Compliance
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to determine individualized care plans that improve a patients overall health and well-being.
Ensure adherence to State and Federal regulations and institution standards.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience : Bachelors degree or equivalent in an approved program in health education or a related health field. Equivalent to one to two years of progressively responsible health education experience or combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.
Knowledge : Thorough knowledge of health education and health equity theories research and program assessment; planning design implementation and evaluation of health education programs and industry standards for the delivery of health education in higher education. General knowledge of or the ability to learn quickly current and emerging collegeage student health problems and existing methods of intervention and control. Working knowledge of the principles of educational and social psychology and how these apply to health education programs; and applicable industry standards and practices for health promotion such as those found in the American College Health Associations (ACHA) Standards of Practice for Health Promotion in Higher Education.
Abilities : Ability to assess needs and establish or recommend program priorities and goals and develop plans to achieve goals; collect compile chart and analyze data pertinent to health education program planning. Plan organize conduct or oversee a variety of health education program and activities including discussion groups and workshops; develop educational materials and media such as pamphlets audio and video materials and electronic media. Present ideas and information accurately effectively and concisely both orally and in writing; use computer and web-based information technology systems as a resource for research and providing health education programs. Maintain confidentiality consistent with applicable laws and regulations; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers students medical and other health professionals representatives of the news media and other community groups.
Preferred Qualifications
Education and Experience : Bachelors degree in nutrition or dietetics (a masters degree is required for all RDs with registration obtained after 1 / 1 / 2024). Minimum of one year of experience in clinical nutrition as a RD specifically working with patients in higher education or community. Current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registry (CDR) and in good standing. Knowledge of clinical competencies based on Nutrition Care Standards of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND). Strong communication and interpersonal skills required. Proficiency with medical technology and EMR.
An American Public Health Association (ACHA) approved masters degree.
Experience developing implementing and coordinating nutrition education or healthy eating programs for individuals small and large groups.
Ability to plan develop implement and evaluate programs to meet the needs of an ethnically and culturally diverse university campus. Collaboration & problem-solving skills.
