SVP of Lab Operations and Assay Development- Genomics / Genetics
As SVP of Lab Operations and Assay Development, you will lead the integration of cutting‑edge sequencing platforms, automation, and regulatory systems to expand laboratory capabilities. You’ll build from research innovation into operational maturity, ensuring both speed and rigor in clinical delivery. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will serve as a bridge between assay innovation, automation, and large‑scale clinical deployment.
What You’ll Do
Lead the design, buildout, and operation of the company’s next‑generation high‑throughput sequencing and assay development programs.
Oversee assay development from concept to validation, including wet‑lab and informatic components across NGS, PCR, and other genomic technologies.
Implement advanced automation and process control systems to drive reproducibility, throughput, and cost efficiency.
Ensure full CLIA / CAP and NYS CLEP compliance, quality systems implementation, and inspection readiness.
Manage end‑to‑end operations, from sample accessioning through sequencing, QC, and data delivery.
Build and lead multidisciplinary teams of scientists, engineers, and operational staff.
Translate R&D advances into validated clinical assays with measurable performance improvements.
Partner with leadership on strategic planning, capital allocation, and vendor relations across sequencing and robotics systems.
Drive continual COGS reduction through thoughtful process design, automation, and validation.
Represent the business in partnerships, investor discussions, and collaborations with technology vendors.
What You’ll Need
Ph.D. or equivalent experience in Genetics, Molecular Biology, or Bioengineering.
10+ years in clinical genomics or molecular diagnostics, including leadership in regulated environments.
Demonstrated success scaling laboratory operations from R&D to clinical production.
Deep expertise with commercialised and pre‑commercial sequencing platforms.
Strong understanding of CLIA, CAP, and NYS CLEP requirements.
Proven record of building and mentoring high‑performing technical and operational teams.
A systems‑level understanding of how to industrialise precision medicine.
The rigor of a geneticist, the pragmatism of an operator, and the creativity of an entrepreneur.
Experience scaling genomic operations and automation systems at Invitae, GeneDx, Variantyx, and LSMC.
Excellent communication and cross‑functional leadership skills.
