Cornell Forge is a recognized leader in the forging industry with a longstanding reputation for producing complex parts. Our facility is located just south of Chicago in Bedford Park.

We are currently recruiting for an Estimator . The ideal candidate should have an investigative nature that drives their research to determine the amount of money, labor and tools necessary to complete a project. The candidate will have 1 – 3 years’ experience in manufacturing preferably in steel forging or machining. Critical to the success of this position is the ability to work well in a collaborative manner within the company.

Essential Functions :

  • Analyzing requirement documents, blueprints and project plans to gain a thorough understanding of the project
  • Determining what factors of production will influence the cost of a service or product
  • Preparing material estimates and cost estimates for the product or service
  • Creating labor estimates for any project
  • Compiling and recording actual costs
  • Responsive to customer’s requests via phone and e-mail, even during travel
  • Working with Customer Service-Inside Sales to accomplish the above effectively
  • Works closely with cross-functional team staff including Engineering, Quality and Production.
  • Other duties as assigned

    Requirements :

  • A background in forgings, castings or manufacturing preferred with the ability to read customer prints
  • Self-starter who takes ownership of his work with ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, while working effectively in a team environment
  • Proficiency in mathematics, statistics and data analysis
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Report writing and strategic planning skills
  • Familiarity with analyzing requirement data to develop material and cost estimates for large projects
  • Expertise with analytic tools, such as spreadsheets and database managers
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents
  • Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional time management skills
  • Must be computer proficient – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and be able to learn our ERP software as necessary
