The City of North Kansas City is seeking a skilled and resourceful IT Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who thrives working independently while providing reliable technical support and solutions. This position requires strong problem-solving abilities, adaptability, and a commitment to delivering excellent service to city departments. Candidates should be proficient in troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Summary of Duties
Work under the supervision of the IT Manager to install and maintain all IT equipment and provide first and second-level support for a variety of computers, tablets, smartphones, peripherals, display and presentation systems, cameras and other network devices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and support IT related hardware, software, and peripherals for users across all City departments at all city-wide locations;
- Maintain in-vehicle mobile data systems;
- Perform basic network cabling tasks;
- Assist with live streaming of public meetings;
- Manage employee accounts within various software platforms;
- Enforce policies relating to Acceptable Computer Usage;
- Train new employees with procedures and appropriate use of technology equipment;
- Manage mobile device accounts
- Maintain an inventory of equipment, coordinate requests for equipment, and set up equipment on location as needed;
- Coordinate with contractors and with other vendors regarding maintenance of equipment as needed;
- Travel to worksites throughout the City to provide user support;
- Assist with special projects and perform other similar duties as assigned;

Minimum
Associates degree in a related field and at least three years experience in desktop support, or equivalent combination of education and experience;Valid Drivers License.Preferred

Technical Skills
Proficiency with Windows OS, Apple IOS and Microsoft 365 productivity software;Proficiency with PC, laptop, phone and tablet hardware;Proficiency with Active Directory and related Directory management tools;Thorough knowledge of computer security practices with a security first attitude;Strong understanding of networking basics;Able to use basic hand tools (e.g., screwdrivers, cable testers, crimpers, punch-down tools);Interpersonal Skills and Abilities

Work is performed primarily in an office environment;The IT Specialist position receives a car allowance to use their own vehicle to travel between sites and to transport equipment. As such the applicant must have a working vehicle.Some work is performed in vehicles, maintenance facilities, outdoors and in inclement weather;May be required to lift or move up to 25 pounds;May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time, talk, hear, drive a motor vehicle, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl under and behind office furniture while moving or installing equipment, use hands to finger, handle or feel, see objects that are near.On call and after-hours work is required as needed and will be shared with the Information Technology Manager.Compensation details : 30.02-40 Hourly Wage
