Fire Prevention And Inspection
The primary purpose of this position is to perform fire prevention and inspection duties designed to detect and reduce or eliminate fire hazards in high fire expectancy areas. Develops and conducts extensive fire protection and prevention education and training programs.
Responsibilities include : conducting an information program to elicit support and involvement in fire prevention, detection, and suppression; performing regular and periodic fire protection inspections for all areas of the installation where the potential severity and expectancy for fire is high; inspecting, testing, and correcting deficiencies on a variety of fire protection systems; reviewing engineering plans and specifications for new construction, alteration, and extension of existing structures; developing and maintaining documentation such as fire prevention inspection schedules and facilities jackets on assigned facilities; complying with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures and performing work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment.
Requirements include : meeting the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Fire Protection and Prevention Series, 0081; having at least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07 or equivalent in other pay systems; developing and conducting extensive fire protection and prevention education and training programs; providing materials, situational and classroom training at installation fire prevention activities; locating, isolating and identifying actual or potential fire hazards and fire safety deficiencies and initiating appropriate corrective action; participating with fire prevention or safety engineers in studying fire prevention problems and investigating actual incidents. Federal time-in-grade (TIG) requirement for general schedule (GS) positions must also be met.
Certification requirements include : Department of Defense (DoD) Firefighter Certification System as Fire Inspector I & II, Fire Instructor I, HazMat Awareness, Public Fire and Life Safety Educator; uploading copies of certifications when submitting the resume to verify qualification requirements for the position.
