Informed by a deep understanding of the adolescent experience and grounded in Hawaiian culture, the new LC will provide Hawaiian youth with opportunities to connect with peers and mentors, receive supportive services, and discover pathways to passion, purpose, and prosperity. LC will be LT’s signature youth development hub for culture, creativity, technology, and play, serving as a resource center where youth can connect to vital supports and a vibrant community. Located in urban Honolulu, LC aims to be a safe space where youth are inspired to pursue their dreams, exploring pathways in arts, sports, technology, and entrepreneurship, while receiving wraparound support to help them reach their goals and become thriving adults. The primary functions of LC include providing a space for play, learning, connection, inspiration, and joy. Currently under construction, LC is set to open in Spring 2025. Job Purpose The Youth Engagement Specialist, under the supervision of the Culinary Programs Team, will support program implementation and youth engagement at Lili’uokalani Center (LC). This includes assisting with enrollment, engagement processes, collaborating with culinary programs, developing special events, workshops, and providing general support. The Specialist will work directly with youth, offering guidance and support, and may also assist administratively and in the kitchen as needed. The role is crucial in supporting and mentoring opportunity youth enrolled in Culinary Arts programs, fostering a positive, inclusive environment, and ensuring participants are engaged and motivated. All programming will integrate into the center’s holistic wraparound services and arts, culture, and technology initiatives. Collaborate with the Culinary Program Team to support youth through enrollment and events. Work directly with youth, providing guidance, support, and mentorship. Build trusting relationships with youth to encourage participation and foster belonging. Assist with program planning, implementation, and monitoring, including culinary groups facilitation. Support opening, closing, and monitoring of facilities; prepare culinary spaces. Contribute to special events, workshops, and open houses to boost engagement. Assist with transportation and administrative tasks as needed. Participate in community outreach, representing LC at events to promote awareness and enrollment. Ensure cultural relevance and sensitivity in all programs. Collect data, prepare reports, and assess program impact. Recruit participants through outreach and community partnerships. Organize activities to foster community and camaraderie among participants. Perform other duties as assigned, including professional development and occasional evening / weekend hours. Qualifications Two-year degree related to Culinary Arts or equivalent experience in food service. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively. Experience engaging with youth, especially vulnerable youth. Valid driver’s license and clean traffic abstract. TB clearance. Strong cultural sensitivity and understanding of Hawaiian values and community. Excellent communication, relationship management, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work under pressure and handle challenging situations calmly. Alignment with Queen’s legacy and Hawaiian culture is essential. Physical and Other Requirements Light physical work including climbing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, lifting up to 25 pounds, and exposure to outdoor conditions.
