Job description

Coast to Coast Legal Aid of South Florida, Inc. (CCLA) established in 2003 is a Legal Services Corporation (LSC) funded, non-profit organization. CCLA provides free civil legal services to low-income and otherwise eligible residents of Broward County and is located in Plantation, Florida, a suburb of Fort Lauderdale. Our mission is to provide equal justice to underserved communities through quality and innovative free civil legal aid. CCLA provides legal advocacy for individuals in our community, helping thousands of economically disadvantaged residents to gain greater access to justice and much-needed legal assistance to remove barriers to a healthy and stable life.

CCLA provides legal assistance in the areas of Family Law & Victims of Crime, Economic Advocacy & Community Health (public benefits), and Senior Law for people age 60 and older. CCLA is currently seeking a hardworking, professional full time Staff Accountant to perform general cost accounting and other related duties for CCLA. Prepares and maintains financial records, tracks the organization's assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities.

Position Requirements

  • Performs general cost accounting and other related duties for the organization.
  • Prepares monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
  • Maintains the general ledger.
  • Codes invoices, reconciles accounts, and works with CFO to close the monthly books.
  • Make check deposits.
  • Reconciles cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts; manages accounts receivable collections.
  • Verifies and / or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
  • Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
  • Manages the purchase and distribution of office supplies and other asset management.
  • Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
  • Completes insurance and other applications as needed.
  • Works with the CFO to ensure that CCLA Financial Guide is complete and updated to comply with all current Legal Services Corporation regulations and January 1, 2023, LSC Financial Guide.
  • Supports the CFO in all aspects of their position.
  • Collaborates with the Management Team and other staff members as needed.
  • Attends and participate in Board Meetings as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the CFO and Management Team.

Position Requirements

  • Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
  • Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Ability to correctly prepare tax reports.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work and focus in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
