Job description

7.5 Hours per Day - 190 Work Day Calendar

START DATE : August 21, 2024

TITLE : Media Center Educational Coordinator

REPORTS TO :  Building Administrator

Responsible for coordinating, organizing, and facilitating utilization of the school's media center; provide and maintain a well-organized, smoothly-functioning media center environment in which students and staff can take full advantage of the materials available, perform a variety of library clerical work associated with the organization and distribution of printed and electronic materials; provide assistance with student device related questions; perform minor student device troubleshooting; organize and manage student device loaners; facilitate communication between technology department and students.

The Media Center Educational Coordinator works under the supervision of a licensed teacher-librarian or administrator in maintaining and providing access to the library collection. The library assistant encourages a love of reading among students; maintains a safe, welcoming, and respectful library environment; and works with staff to support student learning.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives supervision from Administrator and may receive guidance and direction from Administrative Assistant. This position exercises no supervision of other employees.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of the operation of various equipment and technology used in a Media Center to include but not limited to computer and video technology, network access, internet, desktop publishing and distance learning
  • Keyboarding and computer skills
  • Library experience preferred
  • Ability to work effectively with students, teachers and parents
  • Demonstrate positive interpersonal skills
  • Maintain the integrity of confidential information regarding students, staff or district patrons
  • Demonstrate ability to work successfully with staff and students

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Communicate with all stakeholders regarding library materials, programs and scheduling
  • Follow policies and procedures, including those that apply to the library
  • Become familiar with core tenets of librarianship to include intellectual freedom
  • Supervise, support and train students in the media center activities
  • Supervise, support and train students in the safe use of technology
  • Train, supervise, coordinate and support student aides and parent volunteers
  • Build and maintain library collection with district criteria and budget allotment
  • Process and catalog all library material to include inventory, check in check out, reports, collections and book repair
  • Bar code new curriculum as needed
  • Schedule, coordinate and troubleshoot technology equipment, software issues and the technology lab
  • Coordinate Book Fairs, school store and other fundraisers
  • Advertise and support student incentive programs such as Summer Bingo and Bikes for Books
  • Other duties as assigned

  • EVALUATION

    Performance evaluation will be conducted annually the first two years of employment in this position then every two years following. Evaluations will be based on the job description and applicable standards of performance as well as progress toward annual goals that are established by the employee and direct supervisor.
