The purpose of Southwire's College Programs is to provide valuable experience to students pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher. Our goal is to give students meaningful work that builds on what they are learning in the classroom. Our programs are project based. Students will receive a project at the beginning of the summer and present it in our project expo at the end of the summer. Job Description

Job Summary / Objective :

The purpose of Southwire's College Programs is to help early career professionals bring together formal learning and

productive work to improve their ability to transition from school to work. Southwire provides interns and co-ops with

"real world" applications of their academic studies, helpful feedback and coaching, and consideration for employment

after graduation. Each student will have a variety of responsibilities and assigned projects that relate to their field of

study and be responsible for developing a timeline, progress updates, and final delivery in a senior leadership expo.

Note : All new interns and co-ops must begin in the summer rotation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Your intern assignment is generally 10-12 weeks, and co-op assignment is generally 16-18 weeks and

will include an assigned project and opportunities to present your work.

  • You will also collaborate on other exciting projects and work with talented peers and inspirational
  • leaders, many of whom began as interns and co-ops themselves.

  • You will be provided a robust developmental experience through an immersive onboarding and
  • offboarding experience, assigned a mentor, networking opportunities, organized events, activities, and

    community service / volunteer initiatives.

  • You will have the opportunity to impact the future of the organization, all the while being exposed to
  • a world-class program community.

  • Long Description

    The summer intern in PVC compounding will play a key support role in the commissioning of a new PVC compounding line, working closely with operations and technical teams to ensure a smooth startup. Responsibilities will include assisting with equipment validation, process documentation, and trial coordination, as well as supporting the testing and qualification of new PVC compounds slated for transition to full-scale production. The intern will gain hands-on experience in compounding operations, quality assurance, and formulation evaluation, contributing to the successful integration of new materials into the PVC plant's workflow.

    Key Responsibilities

  • Support the commissioning activities of a new PVC compounding line, including equipment setup, validation, and documentation.
  • Assist in coordinating and executing trial runs for new PVC compounds.
  • Conduct physical and chemical testing of compounds to ensure they meet quality and performance standards.
  • Document test results and compile qualification reports for review by technical and production teams.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and operations personnel to troubleshoot issues during commissioning and testing phases.
  • Help prepare materials and data for transitioning qualified compounds into full-scale production.
  • Maintain organized records of compound formulations, test procedures, and outcomes.
  • Participate in safety and compliance reviews related to new line startup and compound handling.

    Qualifications

  • Minimum 2.5 GPA.
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college / university pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or industrial engineering.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organization, planning, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) or other relevant tools.
