Job description

Are you someone who thrives on precision and data integrity?

Do you find satisfaction in keeping complex systems running smoothly behind the scenes?

Does the idea of automating processes and building smarter workflows excite you - even when it means working through detailed tasks that can be repetitious?

If so, you might be the perfect fit for our Portfolio Administration Associate position.

Who we are

UNC Management Company, Inc. ("UNCMC") is an organization that provides institutional investment management services to the University of North Carolina System, its constituent institutions, and their affiliated endowments and foundations.

UNCMC's Investment Operations Team is responsible for executing trades initiated by the portfolio managers, managing both cash and hedging platforms, administering the accounting / finance needs of the investment pool, periodic portfolio reporting to senior management and investors, and collecting, compiling, analyzing, and reporting investment data to aid in investment decisions.

As you can tell, we are a collaborative, cross-functional investment organization committed to precision, performance, and smart decision-making. We don't just collect data - we make it work for us. Our teams depend on accurate, timely investment information to shape strategy, manage risk, and deliver results.

That's where you come in.

The Role : Portfolio Administration Associate

This role sits at the heart of our data ecosystem. While some of the work is structured and consistent - monitoring emails, indexing documents, maintaining systems - it's critical to our success. You're the reason the right data ends up in the right place at the right time. And because you're hands-on with our systems daily, your insights can lead to smarter, faster, more efficient workflows.

Whether you're organizing thousands of data points or spotting an opportunity to automate and optimize, you'll be making a tangible daily impact.

What you will be doing :

  • Collecting, organizing, and maintaining key investment pool data (e.g., capital calls, distributions, audited financials, etc.)
  • Monitoring and indexing corporate email communications tied to investment data
  • Managing and ensuring data integrity within our CRM and document systems
  • Assisting in producing internal performance reports
  • Processing high-volume investment information with accuracy and speed
  • Contributing to ongoing projects to improve data automation and workflow efficiency
  • Supporting legal and operations teams with filings and ad-hoc needs

What we are looking for :

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience)
  • 1+ year of hands-on experience with databases or data management
  • A natural process improver - someone who can identify, build, or suggest automation solutions
  • Self-starter with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • First-rate communicator, both written and verbal
  • Calm under pressure, focused on deadlines, and meticulous in execution
  • Strong computer skills and comfortable learning new systems quickly
  • A team player with a high level of integrity and professional judgment
  • Why join us?

You'll collaborate across departments and play a key role in maintaining the accuracy and consistency that supports critical investment decisions - all while helping improve how we manage and move information.
