THE OPPORTUNITY
Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST), one of the premier land trusts in the United States, is soliciting applications and nominations for a new Chief Financial Officer (CFO). POST protects open space on the Peninsula and in the South Bay for the benefit of all. Since its founding in 1977, POST has protected more than 90,000 acres of permanent open space, farms, and parkland in San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Santa Cruze counties. POST’s approach includes fostering diversity, equity, inclusion, and strong relationships with local indigenous groups. POST’s operating budget exceeds $40 million and its staff comprises approximately 74 people.
Role of the Chief Financial Officer
The CFO has overall responsibility for finance, accounting, operations, IT, facilities, and risk management for the organization. The CFO will lead the execution of POST’s long‑range plan, ensure the financial structures are in place to achieve POST’s ambitious strategic vision, and oversee the annual budgeting process for the organization’s operating budget of over $40 million. The CFO will drive a forward‑looking approach to technology, including artificial intelligence, and partner closely with the executive team, senior leaders, and staff to align systems, platforms, and processes with the organization’s needs. The CFO will also serve as a thought partner, providing strategic leadership across finance, investments, audits, compensation, budgeting, operations, risk, and technology.

Compensation and Location
The expected salary range for the position is $279,990–$311,100. POST offers a competitive benefits package including healthcare, a retirement account contribution and matching, generous time off, paid maternity / paternity / family medical leave, and various wellness programs. The CFO will be based in Palo Alto, California, and is expected to work on-site several days per week, with the possibility of a hybrid schedule within the guidelines of POST’s Hybrid Work Policy.
