Job Description
A confidential healthcare organization in Allentown is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to support patient care through accurate specimen collection, documentation, and clerical workflow. This role involves performing venipuncture, specimen handling, EKGs (as needed), and related duties in a fast-paced clinical setting.
Position Summary
The Phlebotomist is responsible for performing phlebotomy and specimen collection for patients of all ages, processing samples for transport, entering lab orders, and ensuring compliance with clinical protocols. The role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain accuracy under high-volume conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipunctures, capillary draws, specimen collection, and EKGs (as required by site)
- Conduct DNA collections, drug screens, POCT, PKU, and related tests based on site needs
- Verify patient identity using established laboratory protocols
- Label, document, and prepare specimens for transport following SOPs and safety guidelines
- Accession and process clinical specimens for courier pickup
- Enter test orders and perform data entry in LIS / HIS systems
- Clarify orders or test requirements when necessary
- Maintain safety, sanitization, and appropriate PPE usage at all times
- Respond to inquiries regarding specimen requirements and testing schedules
- Assist with clerical tasks, test ordering, and lab-related documentation

High School diploma or GEDMediClear or equivalent HIPAA / privacy certification (required)1 year of phlebotomy experience preferredStrong verbal and written communication skillsComputer proficiency and accurate data entry skillsKnowledge of safety guidelines, blood draw techniques, and specimen handlingUnderstanding of medical terminology preferred
