SUMMARY
The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) supports students' communication development and academic success by identifying, evaluating, and providing therapy for students with speech, language, and communication disorders. The SLP collaborates with teachers, families, and multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized interventions that enhance students' ability to access the curriculum and participate fully in the school environment. This position ensures services align with state and federal regulations governing special education and related services.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION
Performance will be evaluated annually by the Special Education Department Chair in accordance with District 207's certified staff evaluation procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
It is expected that the candidate will present a record of successful experiences that indicate a record of outstanding managerial, leadership, and performance in the following responsibilities :
Assessment and Diagnosis :
Conducts comprehensive evaluations of students' speech, language, and communication skills using standardized and informal assessment tools.
Interprets diagnostic data and determines eligibility for speech-language services under IDEA and Section 504.
Evaluates students' needs for augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems and other assistive technology (AT) supports to facilitate effective communication and participation.
Therapy and Intervention :
Develops and implements individualized treatment plans (IEPs) designed to address communication needs and improve student performance in academic and social settings.
Provides direct and consultative speech and language therapy services, individually and in groups.
Integrates assistive technology tools and AAC systems into therapy and classroom instruction to promote functional communication and generalization of skills across settings.
Documentation and Compliance :
Maintains accurate and timely records, including evaluation reports, progress notes, and IEP documentation, in compliance with district, state, and federal guidelines.
Documents AT consideration, trials, implementation, and progress as part of the IEP process in accordance with IDEA requirements.
Collaboration and Consultation :
Collaborates with teachers, school psychologists, social workers, counselors, and administrators to support students' communication needs across educational settings.
Provides consultation and training to staff and parents to support carryover of strategies and interventions in classrooms and at home.
Works collaboratively with occupational therapists, physical therapists, and technology specialists to identify, implement, and monitor AT and AAC supports for students with complex communication needs.
Screening and Prevention :
Conducts speech and language screenings to identify students at risk for communication difficulties and recommends further evaluation when necessary.
Participates in early intervention and prevention programs to promote effective communication and literacy development.
Recommends and supports the use of low-tech and high-tech AT tools to enhance access to communication and learning.
IEP Team Participation :
Serves as a member of the multidisciplinary IEP team, contributing expertise in communication development and assisting in goal-setting, progress monitoring, and evaluation.
Participates in the consideration and implementation of AT and AAC within IEP meetings to ensure appropriate supports are documented and accessible.
Professional Collaboration :
Participates in professional learning communities (PLCs), department meetings, and student support teams to ensure alignment of services with school goals and best practices.
Engages in ongoing professional development in assistive technology, AAC systems, and evidence-based communication supports.
Compliance and Ethics :
Maintains professional licensure and adheres to the ethical standards set by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).
Other Duties :
Performs additional speech and language-related responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or Assistant Superintendent for Student Services.
