Job descriptionActive Wisconsin RN license and Nurse Practitioner certification (with prescriptive authority). Current DEA registration and BLS certification. Knowledge of advanced nursing theory, pharmacology, diagnostics, and correctional healthcare. Ability to work independently, manage diverse cases, and respond effectively in emergencies. Conduct physical exams, assess health status, and establish medical diagnoses. Prescribe and monitor medications; order and interpret diagnostic tests. Provide preventive, acute, and chronic illness management to persons in custody. Maintain accurate medical records in the electronic health system. Participate in quality improvement, staff training, and patient education programs. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support the DOC’s Reentry and evidence-based care initiatives. Access professional development resources and educational programs offered by different facilities, staying updated with the latest medical practices and guidelines. Adjust your work schedule to accommodate personal commitments, hobbies, or pursuits outside of medicine, promoting a balanced and fulfilling lifestyle. Explore new cities and regions, immersing yourself in different cultures while working. Participate in clinical research projects or data collection initiatives during locum assignments, contributing to medical knowledge advancement and evidence-based practice. Prevent professional fatigue by changing environments regularly, avoiding the monotony of routine practice.
