Senior Back-end Software Engineer (Fraud)

The Fraud Engineering organization is dedicated to developing the essential and strategic software that empowers Affirm to combat fraud effectively, both in real time and after transactions. Our mission focuses on supporting business growth while safeguarding Affirm, our customers, and our merchant partners. We assess risk at pivotal moments in the user journey, swiftly adapt to new fraud patterns, and equip operations teams with robust tools to investigate and mitigate fraud efficiently.

We are seeking a talented Senior Back-end Software Engineer to join our fully remote team. In this role, you will work closely with colleagues across multiple teams, including Product, Compliance, Machine Learning, Fraud Operations, Fraud Strategy, and other Fraud Engineering teams.

What You'll Do

• Lead your team in achieving quarterly goals, guiding engineers through uncertainty to solve complex challenges, and ensuring continuous support throughout the delivery process.
• Design and develop backend services and APIs using Python or Kotlin within Affirm's microservices and event-driven architecture.
• Take an active role in defining the team's roadmap, collaborating on technical designs, and driving the execution of cross-team projects.
• Work alongside the Engineering Manager and your peers to enhance quality standards, evolve engineering processes, and represent the team in cross-functional initiatives.
• Collaborate across functions with stakeholders in Fraud Ops, Compliance, Product, Machine Learning, and Analytics to create scalable fraud tools and infrastructure.
• Proactively identify and implement improvements for system reliability, team efficiency, or architecture.
• Contribute to operational excellence by upholding high observability standards, addressing incidents, and participating in on-call rotations.
• Promote a culture of ownership, inclusion, and craftsmanship through mentorship, feedback, and adherence to high code and design standards.
• Participate in an on-call rotation as required.

Base pay is part of a comprehensive compensation package that may include monthly stipends for health, wellness, and technology spending, alongside benefits like 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental, and vision for you and your dependents. You may also be eligible for equity rewards offered by Affirm Holdings, Inc.

Expected base pay range per year : 85,000 - 115,000
