Clerical Assistant
Responsible for accurate and timely sorting and distribution of Laboratory reports to physicians as well as reporting for telephone inquiries. Must perform routine clerical duties of filing, duplication, minimal typing, mail sorting and other related duties as assigned by supervisor. Responsible for checking Medicare Compliance of Laboratory Outpatient orders and / or accuracy of registration and test ordering on Outpatients. Responsible for the proper service to the patient population which includes : neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and older adult. Reports to Office Supervisor, and / or Support Service Manager, Laboratory.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Maintain accurate listing of physicians' offices and other distribution locations. Sort and distribute laboratory reports. Perform routine clerical duties. Answer phone inquiries regarding specimen collection and handling and / or patient test results. Schedule and reconfirm housecalls for housebound patients.
- Check Laboratory Outpatient paperwork for Medicare Compliance. Check Outpatient registrations and Laboratory orders for completeness and accuracy. Perform Insurance verification on Outpatient accounts.
- Retrieve patient records from Microfiche and Cerner Computer system for Patient-care Providers, HIM, Risk Management, Legal cases and regulatory agencies. Research HCPCS / CPT codes and other required information for patient accounts. Perform insurance appeals process as needed.
- Enter patient registration information into CERNER SYSTEM from paper registration form or by direct interview of patient. Recognizes incomplete information on Laboratory requisitions takes proper steps to resolve the problem.
- Processes orders for Laboratory testing using established order entry procedures in CERNER SYSTEM and / or LIS.
- Scan all Outpatient Laboratory test requisitions into the Electronic Medical Record, as well as non-interfaced Reference Laboratory results and Pathology clinical information.
- Maintain inventory of office supplies and prepare storeroom orders for laboratory. Type and deliver purchase orders and completed invoices to Purchasing and / or Accounts Payable. Help coordinate the Archiving of necessary Laboratory information to the Hospital's Archive storage location(s) Process Regulatory Proficiency survey kits for the individual Laboratory clinical areas.
- Maintain a working knowledge of Computer system; including downtime procedure
- Promote effective working relationships and work as part of the department "team".
- Keeps current on advances in Laboratory Services. Participates in and shares continuing education to maintain professional development and competency for patient population served including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS :
