About the Role
The Company is seeking a General Counsel to join its team. The successful candidate will be responsible for addressing legal challenges and inquiries, providing expert advice on a wide range of legal issues to senior staff, and managing the Bureau's legislative program. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the Bureau's programmatic goals are met and that its interests are effectively represented in the legislative process. The General Counsel will also be involved in monitoring and responding to federal and state legislative matters, as well as influencing statutory changes that impact the Bureau's operations.
Applicants must be admitted to practice law in the State of West Virginia and have a minimum of nine years' of legal experience, including trial experience. The role requires the ability to keep the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner informed on legal and legislative issues, respond to FOIAs, and work closely with the executive team to further the Bureau's mission. The General Counsel will also be responsible for overseeing the development of legislative proposals, managing the Bureau's communications with legislative bodies, and building key relationships to support the Bureau's activities. The position demands a high level of legal expertise, strategic thinking, and the capacity to influence and manage legal and legislative matters effectively.
