Continental Tide is searching for skilled Marine Electricians III for our Fleet Services for our Fleet Services in Norfolk, VA. The successful candidate will join our Fleet Services Group performing various ship repairs, modernization and Alteration Installation Team (AIT) projects.

Essential duties & responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following :
Inspecting, repairing, installing, modifying, and maintaining electrical / electronic systems, circuits and equipment.Perform on-site field service for system grooms and checkouts, minor repairs and system configuration validation.Setting up, checking, and correcting operational and experimental electrical machinery, circuitry, and equipment while adhering to pre-established guidelines and engineering specificationsAssembles multi-pin connectors and fiber optic connections.Constructing components, subunits, or simple models or adapting standard equipment and troubleshoots and corrects malfunctions.Performing component and / or system troubleshooting to diagnose the problem and provide most cost effective recommendation for completing repairs. Perform and / or verify mechanical alignments. Perform on-site field service for system grooms and checkouts, minor repairs and system configuration validation.Read, interpret, and understand simple schematics and blueprints.Inspects and tests electrical systems and equipment to locate and diagnose malfunctions, using visual inspections, testing devicesExtracts and compiles a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc.; processes data, identifying errors or inconsistencies; selects methods of data presentation.Conducting various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement; selects, sets up, and operates standard test equipment and records test data.Follow specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment.Experience and Skills
Requirements include :
Must be Copper Connector Certified & possess fiber optic experienceTechnical expertise with power generation and transmission equipment, motorized valve actuators, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), fiber optics and integrated network system experiencePossess a minimum of seven (7) years of practical shipboard experience with HM&E systems and equipment.Possess possess NAVSEA Cableway and Connectorization Certifications.Candidates must possess a high school diploma, GED or industrial school certificate.Setting up, checking, and correcting operational and experimental electrical machinery, circuitry, and equipment while adhering to pre-established guidelines and engineering specifications.Will read, interpret, and understand simple schematics and blueprints.Repair and replace cables and connectors.Work involves participating in the installation and maintenance of AC and DC generators, switchboards, distribution panels, lighting, and alarm circuits.Applicant must be familiar with NAVSEA, standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of electrical repair, fabrication, and installation.Must have or have the ability to obtain a SECRET clearance and must be able to obtain DBIDS and be able to access local shipyards and US Navy bases.Must possess basic hand tools.Candidate must be able to walk, stand for long periods of time, sit, bend, stretch, reach, squat and twistMust be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs.Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces.Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.May ride ships at sea for extended periods.May require wearing a respirator.Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.Preferred qualifications :
Certified in 'Multi-pin' Connectors IAW MIL-STD-20035A (SA)Certified in Fiber Optic : CFOS / O, CFOS / C, CFOS / S, CFOS / T, CFOS / FCMinimum of 7 years' experience as a Marine Electrician with 3 or more years of previous supervisory responsibilitiesExperience with maintaining budgets and material Responsible for the maintenance and repair of electrical and electro-mechanical systems of ferries, dredges, and military vesselsMust be familiar with NAVSEA Standard Item requirementsCurrently certified to accomplish wire way inspections in accordance with NAVSEA Standard ItemsMicrosoft Office knowledge is a plusIdentify and make recommendation to shop superintendent regarding problem areas in contract work itemsOverhaul A.C. & D.C systems. Power generation, distribution and usersLaying out of wire waysPulling and splicing wiresCircuit LabelingInstallation and hook up of lighting fixturesCircuit testing and troubleshootingWriting simple purchase requisitions for purchase departmentInstructing helpers, apprentices, or less skillful electriciansTake and record motor and generator thrust, clearance, and alignment measuresAbility to identify materials and parts required for job performanceSelection of substitute electrical componentsAbility to foresee problems, write reports and give suggestions for solving those issuesPhysical Requirements :
Exposure to open-air environments, including noisy, hot, and cold conditions.Required to visit project sites aboard ships and rigs, both onshore and offshore.Must wear various types of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hearing, eye, head, and hand protection, as required.Site visits may involve standing on a variety of surfaces and angles, bending, crouching, and climbing over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, and internal barge or boat structural components.Exposure to sound levels exceeding 100 decibels.Must possess sufficient visual acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and night vision to inspect marine components and systems, identify defects or irregularities, and safely operate tools and equipment.May work in confined spaces with limited ventilation.Requires prolonged periods of sedentary work, including sitting and / or standing.May be required to operate machinery, power tools, and / or heavy equipment.Must be able to communicate effectively to exchange and comprehend information.Frequent exposure to extreme weather conditions, including high heat and extreme cold.Must be able to lift and carry 30 lbs. or more, depending on the task requirements.Job Benefits
