Aspiring RN Clinical Intern - Emergency Department

General Summary

Under guidance, the Clinical Intern performs a variety of patient care duties tailored to individual age and developmental needs, assisting with daily living activities and supporting nursing staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care including hygiene assistance such as bathing, hair care, oral hygiene, and grooming.
• Deliver skin care while preventing breakdown and assist with physical activities like repositioning, ambulation, range of motion exercises, and transfers.
• Support nutritional needs by preparing patients for meals, assisting with feeding, monitoring intake, and adhering to dietary restrictions.
• Collect specimens, perform vital signs, and document intake and output accurately.
• Perform specialized care such as sit baths, postmortem care, application of ted hose, ice packs, and wound management.
• Lead and encourage participation in performance improvement initiatives and teamwork.
• Carry out technical nursing procedures within credentialing scope, including oxygen therapy management, catheter insertion / removal, intravenous therapy discontinuation, nasopharyngeal suctioning, dressing changes, and injections.
• Conduct patient assessments in collaboration with the primary nurse and educate patients and families accordingly.
• Maintain clear and precise documentation of all patient care activities in medical records.
• Immediately report any changes in patient condition or concerns to licensed nursing staff.

Education

Currently enrolled in a nursing program or completed nursing education without meeting licensing requirements.

Experience

Entry-level position; no prior experience required.

Mental / Physical Requirements

This role demands significant mental focus and physical activity, including frequent walking, lifting, turning, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Exposure to infectious diseases, radiation, anti-neoplastic agents, and occasionally hostile individuals. Frequent contact with blood and bodily fluids is expected, with minimal physical discomfort overall.
