About the Position

The Los Medanos College Music Department seeks enthusiastic applicants for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Choral / Generalist Music. The position provides high-quality classroom instruction to a diverse student population and involves collaboration with other faculty to support student success. The duties include teaching required college-level music classes, including College Chorus and Class Voice. Additional duties may include vocal ensembles in various styles (Jazz, Pop, Gospel, Community, etc.), Music theory / Ear training, Music Appreciation (styles including Classical, Jazz, Rock and R&B, Hip Hop, American, World Music, etc.), Commercial Music, and Electronic Music.

This position emphasizes expanding the college’s long-running choral and general music programs, including directing concerts and ensembles for the department, the campus, and the community. The professor will work as part of a close-knit faculty team on curriculum development, student engagement strategies, and college initiatives.

The Music Department encompasses Choral / Vocal Studies, Instrumental Music, MIDI, Jazz Studies, and Piano courses and ensembles. Degrees offered include Music and Music for Transfer. Recruitment Timeline

  • Initial review of applications will occur December 2025.
  • Selected applicants will be contacted in January 2026 to schedule an interview. Interviews will be in-person in February 2026.
  • Final interviews will be held February / March 2026. Applicants are responsible for travel expenses; the college nor the District reimburse travel.
  • No candidate shall be recommended as a finalist without meeting minimum qualifications or equivalency verification.

Position Details

Position Title : Assistant Professor - Music (Choral / Generalist) (Tenure Track)

Salary : Initial placement for full-time, tenure-track positions ranges from $68,136 to $112,848 per year (up to $132k), based on degree, units, and experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Advance equitable student learning through exemplary instruction in line with course outlines.
  • Participate in assessment of student learning outcomes for courses and programs; develop and implement SLO assessment processes.
  • Collaborate in curriculum development and program review; engage in department improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in department, division, and college committees; engage in professional development.
  • Maintain current knowledge in subject matter and effective teaching strategies; uphold professional conduct and ethics.
  • Inform students of course requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance expectations; provide timely feedback on progress.
  • Maintain attendance, scholastic, and personnel records; post and hold regular office hours.
  • Participate in shared governance processes.
  • Qualifications

    Understanding of and sensitivity to diverse student backgrounds; Master’s in Music or Bachelor’s in Music and Master’s in Humanities or the equivalent; or a California Community College System Credential in Music. If degree is not exact, submit Master’s degree equivalency form for consideration. License / Certificates / Credentials : as applicable.

    Desirable Qualifications

  • Collegiate teaching experience or equivalent in one or more of : vocal ensembles, music theory / ear training, music appreciation (various styles), commercial / electronic music.
  • Experience producing performances in school or community settings.
  • Experience building recruitment partnerships with area schools and community organizations.
  • Ability to play basic piano for rehearsals or voice classes.
