As a vital member of the Internal Resource Pool, the Patient Safety Attendant (PSA) plays a key role in ensuring a safe, supportive environment for patients requiring continuous observation. Working under the direction of the Nurse Manager and supervised by a Registered Nurse, the PSA provides essential, compassionate care to pediatric through geriatric patients at increased risk due to behavioral, cognitive, or physical concerns. Floating across various units, PSAs remain at the bedside, vigilantly monitoring patients and promptly alerting clinical staff to changes or emergencies. Their responsibilities include detailed documentation, assisting with basic care tasks, and supporting patients who are suicidal, confused, self-injurious, impulsive, or otherwise at risk. Through close collaboration with nursing teams and families, PSAs help maintain safety and dignity for some of the hospital's most vulnerable individuals.
