Finance & Operations Manager
Tilt Collective is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Finance & Operations Manager to join our team. Reporting to our Senior Finance Director, this role combines financial management responsibilities with operational support, making it ideal for someone who enjoys variety and wants to contribute to the smooth running of our start-up organisation while supporting our mission.
The successful candidate will be a UK qualified accountant or very close to qualification.
About Tilt Collective
Tilt Collective accelerates the transition to a plant-rich global food system to cut greenhouse-gas emissions, protect biodiversity, improve public health, and end unnecessary animal suffering. We achieve this by generating rigorous research, providing grant funding to approximately 50 high-impact partners, and convening communicators, creators, and community leaders to shift cultural narratives toward sustainable, plant-forward norms.
Tilt Collective was established in February 2024. We have to date been operating as a fiscally-sponsored project hosted at a United States '501(c)(3)' non-profit, supported by philanthropy. Over the next 6-12 months we will begin to operate as an independent non-profit organization registered in the United Kingdom, with a team of 25 staff and ongoing programs in the UK, United States, Germany, Brazil and Thailand.
We are a 'remote first' organization with team members expected to work primarily from home (or a similar arrangement).
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management (40%)
- Process invoices, expenses, and payments in a timely manner
- Support Senior Finance Director in coordinating with external accounting firm
- Support the preparation of annual accounts and liaison with external accountants / auditors
- Support the creation and implementation of financial processes and procedures
- Support the administration of our employee credit card program
- Ensure compliance with Tilt Collective's delegation of authority policies, UK financial regulations and reporting requirements
- Support grant reporting and financial disclosures to current and prospective funders
- Support budgeting process and monthly management reporting
Operations Support (40%)
Serve as the operational point of contact for all external contractors, for contract and invoice processing.Together with Senior Finance Director, manage the relationship with key vendors including : EOR (currently Atlas), Accounting team, Legal team, Bank, Insurance vendorsSupport HR Director / Systems Project Manager with onboarding / offboarding tasks and processesSupport the maintenance of the organisation's compliance register and ensure regulatory requirements are met.Other Duties : (20%)
Support event planning and logistics coordination as requestedAssist with project administration and monitoringContribute to organizational policy development and implementationSupport the development of operational procedures and best practicesSuggest process improvements across organizationPerson Specification
Essential Requirements
Fully qualified or close to qualification as UK registered, chartered accountant.Minimum 4 years' experience in broad finance and operations roles in a UK-registered organisation.AAT qualification or equivalent experience in book-keeping / accountingUnderstanding of UK charity / nonprofit sector accounting practices, regulations and requirementsStrong attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keepingProficient in Excel and Google SheetsExperience with database management and CRM systemsExcellent organizational and time management abilitiesFluency in English, with good written and verbal communication skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a small teamCommitment to the organization's mission and valuesDesirable Requirements
Experience working in the charity / nonprofit sectorExperience with philanthropy, grant management and reportingProject management experienceKnowledge of GDPR and data protection principlesFluency in a second language, particularly Portuguese, will be considered an advantage.Salary
The salary for this role is benchmarked against the successful candidate's location (with London weighting applied if relevant) and years of experience. We place particular emphasis on qualified accountant status and post-qualification experience when determining compensation within our salary range.
