Job description

Work Type : Part-time / Seasonal

Nature of Work : This is professional work in the Human Rights and Relations Department. Responsibilities include supporting the implementation, monitoring, and community engagement efforts of the Omaha Poverty Elimination Action Plan (PEAP). Incumbents coordinate the work of the Poverty Elimination Plan, ensuring the plan's goals are advanced in a collaborative, transparent, and accountable manner.

Education and Experience : (The knowledge, skills, and abilities above may be acquired through, but are not limited to, the following combination of education and / or experience.)

  • Bachelor's degree in Economic Development, Community Development, Sociology, Social Work or a related field.

OR

Three (3) years of relevant experience in Economic Development, Community Development, Sociology, Social Work or a related field.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Knowledge of English usage and grammar.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws.
  • Knowledge of program coordination, community development, public policy, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of strong organizational, communication, and facilitation skills.
  • Skill in creating and conducting presentations and brokering relationships within the community.
  • Ability to organize and analyze data and problems to make responsible recommendations for solutions in accordance with PEAP.
  • Knowledge of poverty alleviation strategies, urban planning, or public policy preferred.
  • Knowledge of, and ability to operate, computers and other technology using standard or customized computer or systems software applications appropriate to the assigned tasks.
  • Ability to understand written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to advances in computer and electronics device technology and software.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, and members of the general public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to adhere to safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk continuously, and reach, bend, stoop, push and pull up to continuously.
  • Ability to use up to ten (10) pounds of force occasionally to move objects.
  • Essential Functions : (Any one position may not perform all of the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all of the duties that may be performed in positions allocated to this classification.)

  • Coordinates with City Departments about their efforts and implementation regarding poverty elimination.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact between City Departments, community partners, and the public on plan-related initiatives.
  • Assists with data collection, progress tracking, and preparation of annual and biennial reports as required by LB840.
  • Facilitates meaningful community engagement efforts, including forums, listening sessions, and partnerships with people with lived experience of poverty.
  • Coordinates meetings, activities, and reporting for the Poverty Elimination Task Force and its subcommittees.
  • Maintains regular job attendance in accordance with a schedule established for the position by the supervisor.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates within the scope of this classification.
  • Special Qualifications : Must be willing to work evenings, nights, and weekends.

    Must be able to transport oneself or coordinate transportation to work sites throughout the City during the course of the work day.

    Ability to speak and understand Spanish fluently is preferred.

    Pay Range : $25.00 to $40.00 Hourly

    Benefits : Not applicable to part-time / seasonal employment
