Job description

We are seeking an R&D Manager specializing in quantum computer packaging and interconnects for our Hardware Architecture team in our Broomfield, CO location, to apply their skills to the development of our next generation large scale quantum computers.

The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of the QCCD architecture, packaging and interconnect challenges related to large-scale quantum computers, basic sub-system concepts and requirements, experimental limitations, and theoretical use-cases. The candidate should also have a solid understanding of key QC scalability enablers such as photonics, micro-fabrication processes, ASICs, and ultra-high vacuum systems.

This diverse set of topics will be used to create a state-of-the-art design for a commercial quantum computer that advances key performance metrics in qubit count, run-time, and circuit fidelity.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead the architecture team to conceptualize large scale quantum computers
  • Architect vacuum, cryogenic, electrical, and photonic packaging and interconnect solutions for large-scale quantum computers.
  • Manage a team research scientists and engineers to develop new sub-systems compatible with high electrical and optical I / O, ultra-low magnetic, electrical, and mechanical noise, and cryogenic and ultra-high vacuum operation.
  • Analyze performance and reliability of electronic, vacuum, cryogenic, and optical sub-systems
  • Define system level requirements and high-level sub-system and technology requirements
  • Work with sub-system teams to identify potential technology insertions into the architecture
  • Communicate findings and design proposals to larger technical, management, and executive teams
  • Develop, implement, and oversee best scientific practices across the architecture team

YOU MUST HAVE :

  • Master's degree minimum
  • Minimum of 10+ years' experience (PhD inclusive) involving one or more of the following areas : quantum information, ion trapping, qubits, atomic physics, spectroscopy, optics, vacuum systems, electronics, cryogenics, lasers, photonics, or laboratory work in the physical sciences.
  • Due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless the candidate is also a U.S. citizen.
  • Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. person (defined as, U.S. citizen permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status
  • WE VALUE :

  • PhD Preferred
  • Experience leading a team in designing or operating a device for quantum information processing.
  • 15+ years' experience in scientific research and development, engineering, or leadership roles.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, and experience in working with customers and partners.
  • Experience with laser cooling and trapping of ions or neutral atoms.
  • Experience performing simulation and modeling to inform experiments.
  • Experience with control systems for data collection, signal processing and analysis.
  • Experience with laser systems, especially frequency-stabilized diode lasers, optical cavities, and phase or intensity feedback loops.
  • Experience with cryogenic systems.
  • Experience with ultra-high vacuum systems.
  • Experience developing quantum error correcting codes
  • Experience with electro-optic devices, including photodetectors and light modulators.
  • Experience designing and testing micro-optical systems.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with published results within their field of research.
  • 160,000 - $200,000 a year

    Range posted is inclusive of incentive target
