About Us

The University System of Georgia (USG) is comprised of 26 higher education institutions as well as the University System Office (USO). Within the USO, our administrative operations are primarily housed in the Trinity Washington Building located in downtown Atlanta. The Georgia Public Library System is located in Atlanta. The Georgia Archives is located in Morrow. The State of Georgia Records Center is located in Austell.

Job Summary

The Associate Vice Chancellor is generally responsible for the overall budgetary, financial, operational, and personnel functions of multiple departments or programs within a division that have higher education system wide scope and impact. The Associate Vice Chancellor formally directs the work of multiple executive positions. The Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Strategy and Analytics reports to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Student Success.

The Associate Vice Chancellor of Academic Strategy and Analytics will have responsibility for designing data analytics tools that inform the development of strategies that strengthen Academic Affairs functions (e.g. course scheduling analyses, academic program review, advising model efficiency, student success interventions, and faculty evaluation). The AVC of Academic Strategy and Analytics will be a vital member of an office working to foster a systemwide culture of data driven decision making in Academic Affairs at all USG institutions. The position will work collaboratively across key USO units, institutions, and external partners to analyze and interpret data and apply findings to strategies focused on enhancing operational efficiencies and student outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of analytic tools and resources in Academic Affairs units to support USG institutions.Apply insights from analytic tools and resources to the development and implementation of strategies to enhance efficiency.
  • Design and maintain analytic tools to monitor performance of initiatives and projects in USO Office of Academic Affairs. Communicate key findings and identify system-level trends in performance.
  • Develop and train experts among academic leadership at USG institutions to use data to drive decision making.Foster a community among academic administrators that are familiar with analytics tools and their use in strategic decision making.
  • Communicate data insights to key stakeholders as well as develop and implement related strategies.
  • Develops and manages program and department processes, including developing and implementing effective metrics.
  • Provides expertise to System Office personnel and to institutional faculty, staff and administrators; supports decision making and activities at institutional levels.
  • Leads and directs the development of data collection, evaluation and dissemination.
  • Directs the development of regular and special reports.
  • Directs the maintenance of program and department files and records.
  • Provides leaderships and assists institutional administrators in the setting of priorities in alignment with system plans and initiatives.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of system-wide policies and procedures.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree and / or comparable work experience in higher education with coursework instatistical analysis required.
  • Over five years of management experience required.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • 7-10 years of work experience in higher education strategic planning, project design and implementation with a proven record of building partnerships with academic staff and departments required.
  • Doctoral degree preferred.
  • Experience in higher education or other system-based organizations is preferred.
  • Fluency in PowerBI and R
  • Over five years of management experience.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to large and small groups as well as developing data-based stories through reports, briefs, and presentations.
  • Must be a self-starter who takes initiative, and who possesses strong problem solving, analytical and relationship building skills.
  • Must possess research methodology expertise and understand the role that data plays in solving policy and organizational issues.
  • Proficiency in data visualization and statistical analysis tools
  • Ability to locate, synthesize, and apply current research and writing about a variety of higher education issues.
  • Skilled in policy research, policy analysis, policy option development, and scenario planning.
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively, informed by data, about the future of higher education, effective teaching and learning, and economic and workforce development.
  • Excellent organizational and project planning skills.
  • Strong time management and the ability to meet deadlines while working with multiple projects and multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and work in a highly dynamic environment.
  • Ability to interpret academic data and promote use of data.
  • Advance a data-informed strategy, including the development of tools, to advance student and faculty success.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a variety of institutional stakeholders, including enrollment management, and institutional research.
  • Ability to coordinate across USG institutions.
  • Understanding of new approaches to data-informed strategy, including those based on artificial intelligence
