UNIT OVERVIEW

Part of the UCLA School of Education & Information Studies, UCLA Lab School has established a reputation for innovative practice over its 140-year history and provides a stimulating and supportive working environment for teachers. The Lab School offers an inclusive, inquiry-based curriculum that prepares children with the knowledge and skills they need to take an informed and responsible role in the world. The UCLA Lab School is also a laboratory school in that it collaborates with research initiatives at UCLA to bring experts to the school community to explore promising ideas about what matters most in education for the benefit of children, educators, and families at the school and beyond. POSITION OVERVIEW

We are currently seeking a Demonstration Teacher to serve the education of children ages 4-12 (the equivalent of Pre-Kindergarten through grade 6) at the UCLA Lab School. Demonstration Teachers are charged with creating and maintaining an environment that encourages students to collaborate, be inclusive, listen to diverse perspectives, and be reflective in their learning. Demonstration Teachers are expected to collaborate, engage in research, and share their practices with others by participation in public engagement and mentorship. Justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion are key elements to the core values of the Lab School. Demonstration Teachers are expected to continuously strive to incorporate JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) in all aspects of work and life at the Lab School to evolve learnings environments so that all voices are represented, heard, and respected.

Demonstration Teachers at the UCLA Lab School are first and foremost educators dedicated to providing teaching and learning to the students of Lab School. This also includes all aspects of elementary education including but not limited to : lesson planning, curriculum development, collaboration with colleagues and administration, respectful and compassionate correspondence with parents, etc. As educators of a laboratory school, Demonstration Teachers are also charged with promoting innovation and excellence in education through research and public engagement. Aspects of research and public engagement may include : engaging in research initiatives at Lab School, staying current on educational innovation, respectful collaboration with others, mentorship, etc. Demonstration Teachers are expected to adapt to changing demands and needs of Lab School and the students. Demonstration Teachers are expected to use quantitative and qualitative data to inform instruction and decision-making. Other duties may be assigned by the Lab School Principal to fulfill responsibilities of being an educator at Lab School.

Bachelor's degree or equivalent

CA State Teaching Credential or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree or equivalent

5 or more years of teaching experience

Experience with inclusion

Experience with Cognitive Guided Instruction

Experience with Reader's and Writer's Workshop

Experience with a pedagogy of inquiry

Special Education teaching credential
