MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education : Possession of appropriate educational credentials as determined by the Maryland State Board of Education.
Experience : None.
SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess a MSDE Secondary Education Educators Certification.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Active licensure in one or more of the following content areas : English, Social Studies, Science, Mathematics, ESOL, Career and Technical Education (CTE), or School Counseling. 2. A minimum of one year of teaching experience, which may include internship experience. 3. Current and valid certification issued by the Maryland State Department of Education.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Teachers employed in state-operated school programs must obtain and maintain teaching certification in the State of Maryland, as mandated by Education Article, Section 6-101 of the Annotated Code of Maryland and Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) .
Candidates recommended for appointment will be required to complete an Authorization and Verification of Credentials as part of the hiring process.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Employees in this classification are subject to Substance Abuse Testing as outlined in Code of Maryland Regulation (COMAR) , which addresses the testing for illegal drug use.
As part of the hiring process, applicants must consent to State Police and Child Protective Services (CPS) investigations / background checks , which are standard procedures for all employees working in State Juvenile Services facilities.
Proof of eligibility to work in the United States, as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act , must be provided upon hire.
Additionally, employment is contingent upon obtaining at least a Conditional Maryland Teaching Certificate . If it is determined after hiring that the incumbent does not qualify for this certification or fails to obtain and maintain the appropriate Maryland Teaching Certificate, employment will be terminated.
