They assess a patient’s condition and implement care plans. Treatment of wounds and administration of advanced life support is required. Assisting physicians in performing procedures is part of the role. Monitoring and recording patient vital signs is essential. Ensuring proper function of medical equipment and adjusting as needed is required. Administering intravenous fluids and medications is a responsibility. Suctioning may be performed as necessary. Collaboration with the critical care team is vital. Responding to life-saving situations using nursing standards is expected. Serving as an advocate for patients is an important duty. Providing education and support to patient families is essential. Critical care nurses may also care for pre- and post-operative patients. Some roles may involve case management and policy-making duties. Administrative duties may also be part of the job.
