American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg OrthoGeneral Surgical unit, requiring WA or compact RN license and ortho experience.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
Position based in a hospital setting on the Med / Surg OrthoGeneral Surgical unitLevel III trauma center with 40 beds in the unitPatient population includes general medical and post-surgical cases such as pneumonia, sepsis, CHF, COPD, AKI, DVT, PE, dialysis, COVID, and orthopedic surgeriesAverage patient ratio is 1 : 4-5, assigned by acuityCare includes 5 total joint (knee / hip) replacements per week, and a variety of major abdominal and urologic surgeriesCentralized telemetry monitoring available 24 / 7Use of Epic for charting, Alaris and Pyxis equipmentNight shift (12-hour shifts), scheduling may include any day of the week and weekends as neededFloating may be required to other Med / Surg units or ED holdingSupport provided by CNA, free-floating charge nurse, flex nurse, hospitalist, and RT on siteResponsibilities include administration of IV antibiotics, dressing changes, wound vacs, PICO drains, and managing various drains and ostomiesWill receive two days of general hospital orientation and one day of unit orientationCompetency modules and exams provided for rhythm interpretation as neededFirst-time travelers will be considered based on fit for the unitSaline flushes must not be left at bedside or in scrub pockets; narcotic wasting requires two-nurse verificationPain assessments must be documented before and after pain medication administrationWeekly audits for pain assessments and completion of white boards and bedside reports are standardAny color scrubs are permittedFree parking available onsiteNo personal phones on the unit and breaks are mandatory\n \n Requirements\n
Current WA or compact RN licenseMinimum of 2 years Med / Surg experience requiredOrthopedic nursing experience requiredBasic Life Support (BLS) certification requiredPrior Epic experience preferred; manager approval required if noneMust pass a rhythm interpretation exam during complianceStrong time management and communication skills requiredExperience with surgical nursing care and basic wound / drain managementTraveler telemetry competency required prior to start\n Benefits\n
