American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Puyallup, Washington.

Job Description\n

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg OrthoGeneral Surgical unit, requiring WA or compact RN license and ortho experience.

\n \n Responsibilities\n

  • Position based in a hospital setting on the Med / Surg OrthoGeneral Surgical unit
  • Level III trauma center with 40 beds in the unit
  • Patient population includes general medical and post-surgical cases such as pneumonia, sepsis, CHF, COPD, AKI, DVT, PE, dialysis, COVID, and orthopedic surgeries
  • Average patient ratio is 1 : 4-5, assigned by acuity
  • Care includes 5 total joint (knee / hip) replacements per week, and a variety of major abdominal and urologic surgeries
  • Centralized telemetry monitoring available 24 / 7
  • Use of Epic for charting, Alaris and Pyxis equipment
  • Night shift (12-hour shifts), scheduling may include any day of the week and weekends as needed
  • Floating may be required to other Med / Surg units or ED holding
  • Support provided by CNA, free-floating charge nurse, flex nurse, hospitalist, and RT on site
  • Responsibilities include administration of IV antibiotics, dressing changes, wound vacs, PICO drains, and managing various drains and ostomies
  • Will receive two days of general hospital orientation and one day of unit orientation
  • Competency modules and exams provided for rhythm interpretation as needed
  • First-time travelers will be considered based on fit for the unit
  • Saline flushes must not be left at bedside or in scrub pockets; narcotic wasting requires two-nurse verification
  • Pain assessments must be documented before and after pain medication administration
  • Weekly audits for pain assessments and completion of white boards and bedside reports are standard
  • Any color scrubs are permitted
  • Free parking available onsite
  • No personal phones on the unit and breaks are mandatory

  • Current WA or compact RN license
  • Minimum of 2 years Med / Surg experience required
  • Orthopedic nursing experience required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Prior Epic experience preferred; manager approval required if none
  • Must pass a rhythm interpretation exam during compliance
  • Strong time management and communication skills required
  • Experience with surgical nursing care and basic wound / drain management
  • Traveler telemetry competency required prior to start
