Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) invites you to join our Engineering Services-Fire Protection Facilities (ES-FPF) team. This position will support the ES-FPF Operations Manager with Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) and facility requirements. This position will be filled at either the Fire Protection Specialist 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills and experience of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Fire Protection Specialist 1 - $69,500 - $110,300
As a Fire Protection Specialist working with ES-FPF Facilities and Operations, you will use your professional fire protection knowledge, skills and ability supporting one of the largest and most diverse directorates at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Under the direction of the Operations Support Manager, this position's primary role is support of the Fire Department Cooperative Agreement. The individual selected will assist in the coordination and prioritization of pre-incident plans, firefighter training, and multi-organizational meetings. Additional duties will include, but are not limited to : contractor support, vehicle safety programs, personnel security compliance, facility maintenance, and procurement processes. Central to the above, you will need to provide resolutions to a diverse range of moderately complex problems where analysis of data requires evaluation of multiple factors; demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions; and ability to plan / schedule and or arrange own activities in accomplishing objectives. Fire Protection Specialist 2 - $76,900 - $122,200
In addition to the duties outlined in the FPS-1, you will represent the Laboratory at other DOE laboratories and assist in representing LANL to federal agencies, Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board, and community organizations. You will develop reports and / or documents relating to the laboratory fire protection program and fire service issues and inquiries. Conduct analyses, adverse impact analyses, and other special studies and prepare options / recommendations for management's consideration. Take lead in developing corrective action plans, mandatory reports and assessments. Under limited direction, this position's primary role is the planning, performance, and quality assurance documentation of Pre-Incident Planning, Fire Department Access and various emergency response requirements. As such you will coordinate fire department activities in accordance with and compliance with current LANL policies and procedures, NFPA codes and standards, DOE Orders and the Cooperative Agreement through best industry practices. In addition, but not limited to, as an advisor you assist facility management organizations with the implementation of the LANL fire protection program, and assessment of issues and deficiencies. The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite / partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.
