Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia’s capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. Reynolds is seeking a Financial Aid Specialist to provide essential administrative support to the Financial Aid Office. This position plays a key role in ensuring timely and accurate processing of financial aid applications, verifying student status changes, and reviewing Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) and Professional Judgment (PJ) appeals. The Financial Aid Specialist is responsible for making fair and consistent decisions in compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations.

Key duties include communicating with students via phone, email, and mail to obtain required documentation, cross-referencing data to confirm eligibility, and performing accurate data entry. This position requires a strong commitment to customer service and supports prospective and current students, alumni, faculty, staff, and the public by providing information and guidance on financial aid and general college enrollment processes. Minimum Qualifications :

  • Working knowledge of student financial aid programs, operations, and services
  • Familiarity with federal and state regulations, statutes, and institutional policies related to financial aid
  • Ability to provide high-quality customer service when counseling students, parents, and the college community on financial aid matters
  • Skilled in interpreting and explaining policies and procedures clearly and accurately
  • Experience independently performing financial aid functions, including application review, eligibility determination, and record maintenance
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with a diverse population

Additional Considerations :

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with course work in business administration, human services counseling, a social science or related field is preferred
  • Current work experience in financial aid programs / operations / services is preferred. Public contact experience, preferably in higher education.
  • Computer experience, preferably with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and the Internet. Financial Aid
