JOB SUMMARY

This position provides assistance for library operations, programs, and services.

MAJOR DUTIES

• Assists with the operation of the circulation desk; checks materials in and out; answers reference questions; maintains petty cash and receipts; registers new patrons; assists patrons in the use of computers and other library equipment; answers phones and provides information and assistance.
• Operates PINES software system to enter and retrieve information.
• Checks computer out to patrons.
• Notarizes documents.
• Sanitizes books and surfaces.
• Sends and receives faxes.
• Makes copies and scans items.
• Shelves books.
• Reads stacks and straightens shelves.
• Opens and closes facility.
• Checks in courier items.
• Assists patrons in locating materials.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Library Director assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include patron confidentiality standards and city and library policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
