Position Summary
The Director of Student Involvement and Leadership plays a critical role in engaging students in key areas such as : Student Involvement, Student Programming, Student Leadership, Clubs and Organizations, Student Development, and Marketing efforts. The Director focuses their attention on helping students develop their capacity as leaders and assists in creating a dynamic environment that supports students' ability to be successful.
Essential Functions
Supervise and mentor the professional staff within the Student Involvement and Leadership (STIL) Center.
Advise and oversee the SUUSA Student Government Board (SGB) which includes but not limited to the SUUSA Student Body President, SUUSA Clubs Vice President, SUUSA Academics Vice President, SUUSA Finance Vice President, SUUSA Chief of Staff, SUUSA Chief Justice SUUSA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Vice President.
Vet, review, and sign all purchasing card audit statements monthly for all student club cardholders.
Generate and oversee an operating budget for SUUSA and STIL each fiscal year.
Plan and execute ALL STIL Monthly weekly meetings with training, guest speakers, etc. for the full STIL team. Plan and oversee all STIL Retreats (fall and spring) for the full STIL team.
Oversee the STIL Student Leadership scholarship fund given out annually to students who apply for institutional funds to support their efforts both inside and outside the classroom.
Develop and oversee the ALL STIL Leader onboarding training modules. Develop and oversee the Global Leadership training modules for students to self-develop on key areas like presenting, handshakes, etc.
Serve as the Chair for the SUUSA Student Elections process annually for all elected student leaders within SUUSA.
Serve as the point of connection for any University Sponsored Organization (USO) and disbursement of required training, university policy changes, and other important information for their organizations success.
Filter MySUU voice submissions and determine appropriate approaches for addressing the given feedback.
Other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
Minimum Qualifications
A Master's degree in education, student affairs, college student personnel, public administration, business administration, or similar field of study (completion of Master's degree may be completed within the first 6 months of hire).
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in a college or university environment and experience working with students in a higher education environment in a graduate or professional role.
Proven ability to design, create and implement large-scale student programs and campus-wide activities.
Genuine desire to work in student-intensive programs, spending much time with students and actively assisting them in accomplishment of their goals.
Previous experience assessing and evaluating student learning outcomes and student programs.
Familiarity with computer programs and online platforms for student organizations.
Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution and communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work with different campus constituencies.
Demonstrated organizational, leadership, and public relations skills and capable of organizing a wide range of diverse tasks efficiently and effectively.
A commitment to all students and their total development, both curricular and co-curricular and an ability to interact with and relate to a diverse student population.
Preferred Qualifications
Three or more years of progressively responsible professional experience in a college or university environment and working with students in a higher education environment.
Experience working with student organizations, student affairs programs, strategic planning, data assessment and evaluation.
Previous experience working with student leadership programs in higher education / or student organization advising.
Past student leader with experience in student government, programming board, or as a club president.
Experience / ability to supervise the work of others.
Strong understanding and application of marketing, outreach, social media, and new technologies that may improve processes and efficiencies.
Skilled in the collection of data and ability to analyze and make educated decisions.
Provide fiscal leadership and management, which include, but are not limited to, management of student staff, budget development and management, and the implementation and monitoring of operating and fund balances.
High emotional intelligence, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to build strong and authentic relationships.
Profound interest in student development with a broad knowledge of student life, best practices, the profession, and a commitment to encourage and support professional development experiences at all levels within Student Involvement and Leadership.
A communicative, collaborative, transparent work style and the ability to engage a wide array of stakeholders in dialogue and partnerships regarding key functions, programs, and services of Student Involvement and Leadership.
