Position Summary :
Answers and responds to patient phone calls prior to and following procedure related to appropriateness of medications, lab results or other related patient inquiries; communicates with Physician and / or NP about patient problems or issues. In collaboration with physician, performs the technical management of implanted cardiac pacemaker and ICD devices. Coordinates the management of the care of the device patient with the physician and other members of the healthcare team. Performs basic interrogation and adjustments to programming per protocol or specific order and troubleshoots basic, intermediate and advanced device issues.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities :
- Responsible for responding to pre and post-op phone calls from patients regarding concerns / questions.
- Sends out referral letters to referring doctors through AllScripts.
- Mails out device check letters to referring doctors.
- Assists with scheduling procedures and arranging pre-op testing; follows up on lab values.
- Manages Coumadin clinic, reviewing INR results and adjusting warfarin dosing per protocol.
- Performs patient education regarding anticoagulation, antiarrhythmic drugs, and / or cardiac devices.
- Assesses patients for device / rhythm related issuesAssessment includes presenting or recent symptoms, and pertinent history.

Qualifications : Required :
High School Diploma or GEDCurrent State of Michigan RN LicenseMinimum of five years recent work experience working with cardiac device management in a hospital or physician's officeMinimum of 1 1 / 2 years of specialized training in cardiac device management and interrogation techniquesBLS card from AHA required before start date (valid at least 60 days beyond start date)Preferred :
Ten years of experience in cardiac device management / pacemaker clinic highly desiredKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Current implantable cardiac device management and interrogation skills for all current models-requiredAbility to read and interpret 12 lead ECG's and key cardiac arrhythmia's-requiredStrong analytical and troubleshoot skills-requiredSolid interpersonal and communication skills-requiredAbility to work collaboratively with diverse groups-required
