Electrical Inspector
The City of El Paso is offering a job opportunity for an Electrical Inspector. The salary range is $46,211.15 - $68,392.50 annually and the job is available in various locations within the City of El Paso, Texas. This is a Civil Service position with job number 17240-1025 in the Building & Development Permit department. The application process is continuous.
Requirements include a High School diploma or GED, two (2) years of journey level, master, or supervisory electrician experience, a Journey or Master Electrician License required at time of application, International Code Council Commercial Electrical Inspector certification within one (1) year of date of appointment, and a Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state.
General Purpose
Under general supervision, conduct field inspections of assigned construction projects to enforce compliance with municipal, state and national electrical codes and regulations.
Typical Duties
Conduct on the job electrical inspections of assigned new and remodeled sites and structures. Involves : Conduct electrical inspections at different stages of construction project. Review plans and specifications, materials, layouts and equipment. Perform inspections of construction projects for compliance with occupational health and safety requirements. Inform, explain and interpret electrical code requirements for project superintendents or foremen, electrical contractors, architects, engineers, and the public. Provide uniform conformance to electrical codes, standards and regulations. Refer difficult or questionable situations to supervisor. Investigate and respond to complaints regarding illegal construction, safety or hazardous conditions. Issue and post stop orders, corrective actions or citations depending on the situation. Testify in court and before City boards and Commissions, as required. Enforce municipal and building codes. Involves : Issue and post red tag, stop work orders, corrective action notices and court citations as required when construction does not meet electrical codes or plan specifications. Refer citations not signed by defendants to police department for service. Confer with electrical contractors issuing verbal and written corrections as needed. As assigned and during daily inspections, investigate work to ensure electrical construction is being performed by licensed contractors with a city-issued permit and in compliance with requirements. Sign and post permits if construction is in compliance. Maintain applicable databases, records and files. Research prior inspections for approval or disapproval. Attend training and meetings. Maintain certifications.
