License : Active nursing license required. Certifications : BLS & ACLS, NIHSS. Must-Have : Candidate must pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialty. Minimum of 2 years of cardiac telemetry experience required. Traveler experience preferred unless the candidate has more than 24 months of cardiac experience. Ratios are typically 1 : 4 for surgical step down patients. Ratios are typically 1 : 5-6 for lower acuity patients. Contract staff may be required to report to work during catastrophic events, mass casualties, or disasters. The unit handles a variety of cardiac diagnoses including atrial fibrillation, CHF, and cardiomyopathy. Special procedures performed include CABG, valve replacements, and catheterization procedures. Candidates should be comfortable floating to other units as needed based on skill sets and patient census. Required skills include interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, sheath removal, and the management of cardiac drips. Arterial line management and charge experience preferred. Call and weekend requirements are flexible but candidates should expect to work a certain number of weekends per month. Candidates must work 2 out of 3 major holidays. References from previous employers are preferred at the time of submission. The unit uses EPIC for documentation and has a daily census of 41 patients. Travel pairs are allowed but must work on different units. Travelers cannot work more than 5 consecutive days or more than 60 hours in a week. Modules must be completed prior to starting the assignment.
