• Associate degree preferably in Business or Accounting.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience in payroll processing.
• Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in payroll processing.
• Understand and apply current federal, state, and local payroll laws and

regulations.

Primary Responsibilities :

This Payroll Specialist position, assigned to Sul Ross State University (SRSU) through a shared services agreement, will perform daily payroll activities and processing of payroll for students, exempt, and non-exempt personnel to ensure compliance with Texas State University System (TSUS), University Payroll Policies and Procedures, and FLSA rules. This position also assists with payroll reporting, benefits coordination Payroll Specialists and perform other duties as required.

Other duties may be assigned to this position on a regular or occasional basis to respond to the needs of the university.

Physical Requirements :

This position typically works in an office environment, requiring prolonged periods of sitting at a desk while using a computer. The role demands frequent use of hands and fingers to operate a keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment. Visual acuity is essential for reading and interpreting data on computer screens. Clear verbal communication skills are necessary for interacting with colleagues and employees. Additionally, the job may involve occasional mobility around the office and attending meetings, as well as potential travel to attend off-site meetings and trainings.

Job Conditions :

The payroll specialist works in an office environment typically following a 40-hour workweek, although additional hours and some travel may be required during peak periods. The job involves prolonged sitting and frequent collaboration with other departments ensuring accurate payroll processing and encouraging a strong emphasison confidentiality.

This position is security-sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information.
