Job Description : Locum Cardiothoracic Surgeon

Overview :

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Cardiothoracic Surgeon to join our healthcare team on a locum tenens basis. The locum cardiothoracic surgeon will primarily focus on providing exceptional surgical care in the operating room, performing a variety of cardiothoracic procedures to treat patients with cardiovascular and thoracic diseases. This position offers the opportunity to work in diverse healthcare settings, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and make a meaningful impact on patient outcomes.

Responsibilities :

  • Perform a wide range of cardiothoracic surgeries, including coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), valve repair / replacement, aortic surgery, lung resection, and other procedures as needed.
  • Conduct comprehensive preoperative evaluations of patients, assess surgical risks, and develop tailored surgical plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Lead surgical teams in the operating room, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, efficient workflow, and optimal surgical outcomes.
  • Provide perioperative care to patients, including postoperative monitoring, pain management, and wound care, and address any complications promptly and effectively.
  • Collaborate with anesthesiologists, cardiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care and ensure interdisciplinary cooperation.
  • Maintain accurate and complete medical records, documenting all aspects of patient care, surgical procedures, and postoperative progress in compliance with hospital and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety, surgical outcomes, and overall quality of care, providing input and feedback to optimize clinical processes and protocols.
  • Mentor and supervise residents, fellows, and other healthcare professionals participating in cardiothoracic surgery rotations, sharing knowledge and expertise to facilitate learning and professional development.
  • Stay updated on advances in cardiothoracic surgery techniques, technologies, and best practices through ongoing education, training, and participation in professional organizations and conferences.
  • Respond promptly to emergent situations requiring cardiothoracic surgical intervention, demonstrating calmness under pressure and decisive action to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes.
  • Uphold the highest standards of professionalism, medical ethics, and patient confidentiality in all interactions, maintaining a commitment to excellence in clinical care.

Qualifications :

  • Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited medical school.
  • Board certification in Cardiothoracic Surgery from the American Board of Thoracic Surgery (ABTS) or equivalent certification board.
  • Valid and unrestricted state medical license to practice cardiothoracic surgery.
  • Extensive clinical experience in cardiothoracic surgery, including proficiency in a wide range of procedures and surgical techniques.
  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to upholding ethical standards and delivering high-quality patient care.
