Utilities Superintendent
This position is responsible for supervising and participating in construction, maintenance, and repair of the city's underground utilities systems.
Examples of duties include prioritizing and scheduling work assignments; monitoring performance to ensure compliance with rules and regulations and to ensure efficiency and effectiveness. Coordinates activities with other utility companies. Trains, assigns, directs, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines personnel. Manages inventory of materials and supplies and places orders as required. Monitors work orders through completion. Maintains records and prepares reports. Ensures compliance with applicable city, state, and federal safety policies and regulations. Receives and addresses complaints from the public regarding water and sewer services. Performs related duties.
Typical qualifications include knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with a minimum of five (5) years of experience or service. Possession of a Class I Water Distribution System Operator License issued by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and a Class A Wastewater Collection Technician certification issued by Florida Water & Pollution Control Operator's Association. Ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Florida for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Knowledge required by the position includes knowledge of water distribution and wastewater collection system maintenance principles. Knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations. Knowledge of personnel management principles. Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs. Skill in the operation of a variety of tools and equipment. Skill in the training and supervision of personnel. Skill in prioritizing and planning. Skill in the analysis of data and the preparation of reports. Skill in interpersonal relations. Skill in oral and written communication.
