Intermountain Research and Extension Center (IREC) is one the University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources' ten Research and Extension Centers (RECs). Research topics of current interest include crop variety development, integrated pest management, irrigation management, plant nutrition, and agriculture-wildlife interactions. Available Center facilities and equipment include a greenhouse; controlled post-harvest facility; mini-still for essential oil extraction; specialized small plot irrigation equipment; and a full line of commercial farm equipment for field and vegetable crop production.
Under general supervision, the Senior Farm Maintenance Worker will inspect farm buildings, facilities, and equipment to ascertain whether repairs are needed; and install, repair and replace concrete pipe, stands, vents, valves, gates and water pumps. The incumbent will operate, maintain, and repair farm machinery and farm / facilities infrastructure including buildings, irrigation systems, crop and equipment storage, vehicles, research equipment, roads, fences, and landscaping. Assist technical staff and project leaders with field research and uniform cropping operations including planting, weeding, cultivation, irrigation, harvest, and data collection.

General facility maintenance
Maintain, repair, and replace equipment and components associated with center farm infrastructure including fences, roads, signs, and structures.
Maintain and repair floors, painting, filters, light bulbs, sprinklers, windows, doors, plumbing, and facility furniture.
Perform record keeping and scheduling of maintenance for facilities and grounds.
Operate, calibrate, and maintain equipment and hand tools Maintain and repair irrigation pipe, and HVAC. Maintain, operate, and repair farm machinery including tractors, vehicles, trailers, farm implements, and farm research equipment.
Assemble and assist in the fabrication of farm machinery and make specific adjustments in accordance with operating specifications.
Perform regular record keeping and safety inspections to make sure machinery and farm infrastructure is operated in proper, safe order.
Maintain, repair and replace hydraulic and electrical systems on farm equipment and farm infrastructure. Assist technical staff and project leaders with field research and uniform cropping operations including planting weeding, cultivation, irrigation, harvest, and data collection
Assist with mixing and applying agricultural fertilizers and pesticides Requirements :
Two years of experience as a farm machinery mechanic; Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
Ability and means to travel on a flexible schedule as needed, proof of liability damage insurance on vehicle used is required. Reimbursement of job-related travel will be reimbursed according to University policies.
Travel including travel outside normal business hours may be requested.
