The RN-ICU ratio is 1 : 2. First-time travelers are not accepted. Weekend work is required every other weekend. This position requires handling a variety of patient diagnoses, including respiratory failure, ARDS, acute chest pain, cardiac arrhythmias, stroke, cardiac arrest, DKA, multi-organ failure, and sepsis. The unit involves pre and post-operative care for cardiac, thoracic, and abdominal surgeries, medicine, neuro-medicine overflow, and pre and post-transplant care. Staffing will include diverse interdisciplinary support like physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, radiology, and social services. Daily care activities will involve the use of special equipment such as IV pumps, CRRT, dialysis, ventilators, and hemodynamic monitoring. Flexibility to float within the ICU service line may be required. Orientation and training are included to ensure readiness for the position.
