Job Summary
Performs chemical, bacteriological, immunological, and coagulation tests, examines specimens, and collects blood from patients as overseen by the Department Laboratory Director. Performs routine and complex clinical laboratory procedures. Recognizes unusual results and variances while performing these procedures and makes necessary simple corrections and adjustments. Orients others to the proper performance of routine procedures. Assesses quality, efficiency, and safety in the performance of technical work.
Essential Functions
Physical Requirements
Works in an environment interacting with physicians, patients, technologists, and other hospital teammates. Works in an area which contains biohazardous (infectious) materials along with chemical, fire, and mechanical hazards. Each employee has the responsibility to work in a safe manner. May be required to stoop, reach and lift light (20 pound) to moderately heavy (50 pound) loads.
Education, Experience and Certifications
Must have an associate degree or equivalent education and training as defined by CLIA. MLT registry eligible or equivalent required. MLT (ASCP / AMT) or equivalent required within one year of hire. MLT (ASCP / AMT) certification through the U.S military medical laboratory training programs by an accredited institution is acceptable. Blood bank experience preferred.
