We are currently seeking an outstanding CNA / RA / PCA to join our team. This is a PRN position.
GENERAL SUMMARY :
The Personal Care Assistant works closely with residents participating in the Assisted Living Program. Daily duties include regular safety checks, medication reminders, assistance with ADL'S and taking part in activities to help add quality to daily living. Following individualized Service Plans, the PCA will assist with personal care needs such as personal hygiene and grooming, dressing, transfer and ambulation, transports within the community, incontinence care and more frequent safety checks. PCAs may also help with group outings and escorts to scheduled appointment.
Essential Job Duties :
- Performs duties and carries our responsibilities in a professional, caring, courteous manner in accordance with the policies and procedures of Weston Terrace and the State of Illinois Assisted Living rules and regulations.
- Follows established plan of care of the individual resident so to maintain the highest level of independent living.
- Helps residents in a variety of tasks related to personal hygiene such as assistance with bathing, dressing, shaving, shampooing hair and oral hygiene as appropriate.
- Assists in helping residents during mealtimes.
- Maintains a safe and sanitary environment in each resident's apartment by making the bed, washing linens and personal laundry.
- Transports, escorts, and accompanies residents to dining room / common areas, trips, scheduled activities, as available.
- Reminds the clients to take prescribed medications on correct day and time from appropriate container only to ensure compliance.
- Obtains vital signs, performs tests, carries out procedures and collects specimens as instructed.
- Reports any unsafe conditions of the environment or of the person to the supervisor.
- Identifies unsafe conditions that may cause harm to residents or others, take action to correct the problem if appropriate, or report to the appropriate person to deal with the problem.
- Responds to signal lights promptly.
- Follow procedures when dealing with an emergency situation.
- Document work completed and additional notes when indicated following Village policy and procedure.
Other Duties :
When not involved with scheduled care activities, participates in resident's social activities with individuals and groups.Encourages the resident's involvement in all activities to help maintain the highest level of independence possible.Works cooperatively and communicates effectively with residents, their families / guests, and other staff.Presents self in a professional manner demonstrating a positive attitude, courtesy, respect, and enthusiasm when working with residents and families / guests.Approach all problems and concerns as an opportunity for improvement making sure to share this information with the appropriate person(s).Participate in Resident Service Plan reviews and meetings as requested.Comes to work properly attired for workFollows and completes required / requested schedule of service in a timely, efficient manner. Updates both verbally and in written form reports to supervisor in a timely & accurate manner.Performs work in an ethical manner according to Weston and village rules of conduct.Attends scheduled in-services to comply with IDPH regulations.Other duties as assigned.Asbury Village fully embraces a culture of hospitality. QUALIFICATIONS :
High School graduate preferred. Also, 18 years of age.Valid Illinois Driver license or the ability to get to and from to work on time.Certified Nursing Assistant Certification or in classes to obtain certificate or a student nurse who has successfully completed first semester.Current CPR certification or ability to obtain within one month.Ability to understand and follow instructions in English, communicate effectively, and perform simple arithmetic. Ability to document care given.Good interpersonal skills and experience in working with the elderly in a care giving environment.PHYSCIAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS :
Have the ability to move throughout the facility promptly, especially in emergency situations. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted, and up to 150 lbs. with the assistance of one. Must
be able to stoop, bend, and reach; must be able to push and pull up to 150 lbs. in a wheelchair; good visual and hearing acuity required; Good verbal communication skills required. Must be able to walk or stand for up to 80% of the workday. Must be free of communicable disease; may be exposed to communicable diseases, and blood and body fluids that may contain HIV and / or HBV. May be exposed to cleaning chemicals and offensive odors.
Working the majority of time in well lighted, comfortable and ventilated rooms. Frequent stooping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing and pulling. Work is of medium demand and requires consistent lifting up to 10 lbs., frequent lifting up to 20 lbs. and occasional lifting over 75 lbs. Near visual acuity to read documents, measure devices / gauges, and operate other machines. Performs tasks requiring independent knowledge in addition to procedures or instructions provided. Worker subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. Potential for exposure to blood borne pathogens.
