Job description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Project Accountant to join our construction team. The Project Accountant will be responsible for managing project financials, ensuring accurate reporting, budgeting, cost tracking, and financial compliance for multiple construction projects. This role works closely with project managers, field staff, and the accounting team to support the financial success of each project.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Set up, monitor, and maintain accurate job cost records for construction projects.
  • Prepare and analyze project budgets, forecasts, and cost reports.
  • Track project expenses, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
  • Manage project billing, including preparation of owner invoices and processing subcontractor payment applications.
  • Ensure compliance with contract terms, including retention, change orders, and lien releases.
  • Reconcile project accounts and support month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Maintain organized project files and documentation in accordance with company policies.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in construction or project-based environments.
  • Strong knowledge of construction cost accounting, project billing, and financial reporting.
  • Familiarity with construction accounting software (e.g., Viewpoint,) is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Bluebeam, and other financial tools.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage and train other Project Accountants.
  • Preferred Skills :

  • Experience with AIA billing processes.
  • Understanding of contract structures, including Unit Price, T&M, and lump sum projects.
  • Knowledge of lien waiver management, certified payroll, and construction compliance documentation.
  • Compensation :

  • Base salary : $80,000 - $100,000 based on extent of relevant experience.
