We are looking for an experienced Accounting Manager / Supervisor to join our team in Pomona, California. In this role, you will provide critical financial accounting expertise and leadership support, ensuring smooth monthly closings and compliance with university policies and external regulations. This position involves managing audits, overseeing funds, and collaborating across departments to maintain accurate reporting and financial processes.
Responsibilities :
- Lead and manage monthly financial closings, including the preparation of essential journal entries for areas such as revenue recognition, endowments, leases, and capital assets.
- Oversee quarterly reviews and annual audits, ensuring compliance with university policies and external regulations.
- Monitor and manage designated research funds and intramural resources allocated to various departments.
- Prepare and deliver financial reports to supporting agencies, adhering to regulations and standards.
- Collaborate with Sponsored Programs to ensure accurate accounting and reporting for external grants and contracts.
- Supervise cash management processes, including federal draws and contributions receivable.
- Act as a liaison between campus administrative departments and auditors, resolving issues and ensuring transparency.
- Provide mentorship and training for accounting staff, fostering growth and adherence to policies.
- Assist the University Controller in overseeing internal and external financial reporting, technical accounting, and staff management.
- Work closely with the Financial Planning and Analysis (FP& A) team on projections, reporting, and critical financial projects.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; Master’s degree preferred.Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, with a preference for higher education or non-profit industry expertise.Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is highly desirable.Proficiency in fund accounting, grant accounting, and audits, including federal funding and Uniform Guidance audits.Experience with accounting software systems and ERP platforms; familiarity with Ellucian Banner is preferred.Strong analytical skills and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data review and report generation.Excellent interpersonal skills to manage staff effectively and build collaborative relationships across departments.High-level critical thinking abilities to identify and mitigate risks swiftly and accurately.
