Material Handler - Summary
The Material Handler is responsible for the efficient movement, loading, and unloading of materials within a warehouse, cross-dock, trailers, or work site. This role ensures accurate handling, identification, and documentation of inbound and outbound cargo, supporting overall logistics and warehouse operations.
Key Responsibilities :
- Read work orders or follow verbal instructions to determine materials to be moved.
- Receive and inspect incoming items for identity, quantity, and condition.
- Open containers as needed and inspect contents per instructions.
- Load / unload materials by hand or using equipment such as forklifts or hoists.
- Secure loads for transit using strapping, padding, or bracing as required.
- Accurately complete shipping / receiving documentation using scan guns and internal systems.
- Count, weigh, and record units of materials moved or processed.
- Ensure shipments are properly marked, labeled, and documented.
- Coordinate transportation and resolve special handling issues.
- Organize and store materials in designated locations.
- Operate warehouse machinery (e.g., banding, taping, sealing).
- Perform daily safety and equipment checks.
- Maintain clean and organized workspaces.
- Adhere to safety procedures and contribute to a culture of continuous quality improvement.
This role is essential to the smooth flow of materials through the facility and requires attention to detail, a commitment to safety, and a proactive approach to process improvement.
