Overview

The Product Manager is a product champion and pivotal leader accountable for business value and outcomes, building and evangelizing a product mindset, and driving end-to-end delivery of strategic imperatives across a moderately size agile program. Employing strategic and execution mastery, this individual actively influences product strategy, crafts and communicates a compelling program vision, and shepherds development of actionable plans ensuring ongoing delivery of measurable value. The Product Manager is the chief user advocate and proxy, leading engagement with internal and external customers to cultivate and ensure understanding of needs and experiences and integrate these as a cornerstone in the shaping and evolution of products. An inspirational and empowering leader, this individual applies comprehensive product knowledge, leadership skills, and interpersonal aptitude in managing, coaching, and developing a team of high-performing Product Owners. As a trusted business partner, the Product Manager collaborates with product leadership, program leaders, end users, customers, stakeholders, and teams in ensuring strategic continuity in prioritization and refinement of content, measuring product and financial outcomes, ensuring balanced product support within agile teams, demonstrating impactful business value, and enabling meaningful program-level continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Interprets and synthesizes product strategy into a clear, inspirational, and actionable vision providing a foundation for development and delivery across an agile program. Translates vision and development plans to a value-based, iterative roadmap communicating business and customer outcomes on a relevant timeline.
  • Owns end to end value delivery and outcomes at the program level, collaborating with product leaders, IT leaders, business leaders, stakeholders, and teams to ensure alignment between strategic goals and program development plans.
  • Acts as chief customer advocate and proxy, leading engagement with internal and external customers to understand needs, construct and optimize feedback mechanisms, and incorporate outcomes in product and program vision.
  • Conducts and participates in market and competitive research efforts, introducing applicable findings in development of product initiatives.
  • Identifies and directs collection of relevant data, guiding and performing refinement and analysis for informed decision making. Employs an economic view, assessing cost, benefit, and business value in determination of product and program priorities.
  • Leads development and enrichment of a product mindset, ensuring understanding and alignment with product strategy across an agile program and the organization. Promotes innovation and guides navigation of ambiguity and embracing change. Leads a team of Product Owners within an agile program by providing clear direction, fostering collaboration, empowering decision-making, and removing obstacles to ensure success.
  • Owns, manages, and regularly prioritizes the program level / feature backlog. Directs refinement of features in collaboration with Product Owners, IT leads, end users, customers, stakeholders, and partners.
  • Aligns and directs demonstration of business value for product leadership, business partners, stakeholders, end users, and customers; guides the program in agile ceremonies, program planning, assignment of business value, defect prioritization, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Proactively manages inter- and intra-program dependencies, collaborating with program leaders, aligning prioritization, and communicating impacts as appropriate.
  • Measures, tracks, and communicates outcomes and provides status reporting at the program level.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Requirements

  • Comprehensive understanding of the P&C insurance industry, product line or domain and aptitude for continued learning
  • Mastery of distilling and decomposing business strategy and creating and communicating a compelling vision
  • Mastery of collaboration and stakeholder management; appreciation for diverse perspectives
  • Expertise in customer and user engagement and related methodologies
  • Expertise in market and competitive research and related methodologies
  • High comfort level and aptitude in managing, coaching, empowering, and developing a team of direct reports
  • Expert problem-solving capability, intellectual curiosity, and development-focused mindset
  • Mastery of data collection and analysis and ability to apply in effective decision-making
  • High comfort level and aptitude in navigating ambiguity
  • Expert ability to effectively operate at both strategic and tactical levels
  • Comprehensive understanding of and extensive experience with product and software development lifecycles
  • Expert knowledge of and practical experience with agile methodologies and tooling
  • Expert knowledge of and practical experience writing and refining agile requirements
  • Experience and comfort working with regulated products
  • Mastery of written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Education and Experience

  • College degree preferred
  • 5+ years of business analysis experience
  • 2+ years of experience in insurance line of business role
  • 2+ years of leadership experience

    The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, performance, and business needs.

    Pay Range

    USD $121,000.00 - USD $184,000.00 / Yr.
