RN – Labor & Delivery

Location : Port Arthur, TX 77640

Shifts : 3x12s – Days (7a–7p) or Nights (7p–7a)

Bonus : $15,000 sign-on bonus , paid out over 1 year (3 payments)

Client Needs :

Experienced L&D nurse with strong skills across L&D, LDRP, circulating C-sections, newborn transition, and general labor care. Looking for someone with a positive attitude who can also precept and step into charge when needed.

Required Experience & Certifications

• 2+ years of L&D or LDRP experience
• Active RN license in Texas
• Unit-required certifications (BLS, CPI, etc.)
• NIHS Scale, stroke education, cardiac education, and ortho education per department competencies
Certifications :
• BLS
• ACLS
• NRP
• AWHONN Intermediate / Advanced Fetal Monitoring
• STABLE (preferred)

Unit Type :

8-bed LDRP (expandable to 16 postpartum / 12 Gyn)

Dedicated bereavement / adoption room

Services :

Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (couplet care)

Volume :

25–30 deliveries / month (growth expected)

NICU :

12-bed Level III NICU with 24 / 7 in-house Neonatologist; includes 2 isolation rooms

Physician Coverage :

3 OB laborists and in-house anesthesia

Nursing Role & Expectations

Full-scope LDRP care (labor through postpartum)

Circulate C-sections and manage recovery / post-op care

Transition newborns

Serve as charge nurse when needed

Precept and support onboarding of new staff

Manage triage (approximately 60 triage patients / month)

EMR : Meditech MagicFS 7.15.4.0

Monitoring : Centricity

Typical Ratios :

1 : 1 active labor

1 : 1 C-section circulator

1 : 2 couplets (per AWHONN guidelines)

Position Summary

The RN plans, organizes, and delivers patient care for the assigned shift. This includes assessing patients, coordinating care with providers and interdisciplinary teams, advocating for patients, and maintaining current nursing standards and policies.

When acting as Charge Nurse, responsibilities include :

Assigning patients based on acuity and staff competency

Promoting a safe, patient-centered environment

Adjusting assignments as conditions change

Exercising strong clinical judgment and reprioritization

Supporting and supervising agency, new, and temporary staff

Understanding suicide prevention and restraint protocols

Facilitating communication across all care teams

Delegating tasks appropriately per Texas Administrative Code

Escalating concerns using the Chain of Command

Ensuring compliance with all hospital, regulatory, and safety standards (Core Measures, Infection Control, CMS, NIAHO / DNV, OSHA, State of Texas)

Qualifications

Minimum 2 years L&D experience

Current Texas RN license

Required unit competencies and certifications (BLS, CPI, NIHS Scale, etc.)
